Calling all SUPERHEROES!

Support West Houston Assistance ministries at their Annual Spring Dash on June 4 to run and fight hunger and poverty in Houston! Dress in your fanciest cape and/or superhero outfit and run or walk our 5K/1K. Everyone is invited to this in person race , kids, colleagues, or bring along your neighbors! Make it a team building activity for your company or a family affair! Everyone who registers will receive a finisher medal, T-shirt, bib and a swag bag filled with goodies and sponsor gifts! After your heroic run and fight against poverty (POW!), all superheroes will get to take a break, receive their medals and enjoy the food, drinks, fun activities, and raffles that will be available for them. Super Pets on leashes are also welcome to join in the run and fun. Your support (registration, sponsorship or donation) helps raise funds to provide critical assistance to individuals and families who need food and financial help. Your support also helps provide individuals with training and education for better job opportunities. The Altar Guild needs you!

The altar guild is in desperate need of new members. All are welcome – women, men and teens! Our job is to ready the Church each week for the services and communion and then clean up after the services. It is as easy as following a checklist. Often, teams divide and conquer – some set up while others do the cleanup. Currently, we have four teams, so each serves about once per month. Ideally, we’d like to have more teams. Please email Dana Sutton at desutton22@gmail.com if you are interested or if you just want to find out more information.

Adult Confirmation Class

For any adult who would like to be confirmed, received, or reaffirmed, please speak with Fr. Mark. We will be reaching out to some of you individually. Fr. Mark is consulting with anyone who has expressed interest in joining the Episcopal church and plans to host a confirmation retreat to teach what it means to become an Episcopalian and answer any questions you may have. It will tentatively be on a Saturday, from approx. 10am to 3pm, lunch will be served and childcare provided. The date will be announced. If you would like to participate in this retreat please contact Fr. Mark at mark@ascensionepiscopalchurch.org.

Fill the Box

Don’t forget to your non perishable donations for WHAM. Let’s fill the box!  Crackers and cheese, fruit cups, canned meat, and canned ravioli are very helpful items. Canned soup and veggies, PB&J, and rice and beans are always needed staples.

WHAM Recycling Center

The recycling station in the Parish Hall accepts paper and plastic bags, egg cartons, condiments, and individually wrapped plastic ware. These items are donated to WHAM and are an excellent way to keep usable items out of landfills. However, we cannot accept newspapers, aluminum cans or plastic bottles, please do not leave these items to be thrown away. You are encouraged to find other ways to recycle these items.

Give the Gift of Sight

All year long, we collect eyeglasses, cases, sunglasses, frames, and lenses -- all things related to vision for donation.  In late January/early February, Constance O’Brien delivers this year long assembly of eyewear  to the Lion's Club in honor of National Eye Month. These glasses are then repaired and distributed in the US and around the world to those in need. The collection box is located near the WHAM food donation bin.

Please visit the following sites to stay up to date on the activities and on-goings of the ministries we support as they continue their vital missions to help those in need.
