Friends,
Please join us Wednesday afternoon at 5:30 for worship and the imposition of ashes. Bulletin.
About the Tradition of the Imposition of Ashes
As part of tomorrow night’s worship, the imposition of ashes will be offered. This practice may not be familiar to everyone. Ashes have been used in Christian churches to mark the beginning of Lent since at least the 10th century, and ashes are mentioned in scripture as a symbol of purification and repentance. We offer the imposition of ashes as a physical reminder of our mortality and sin, and an assurance of God’s forgiveness and salvation. Worshipers may come forward to receive the mark of the cross on their foreheads or the back of the hands. The ashes are from leftover palms from past Palm Sundays.
Peace and hope,
Pastor Frank
