George Govan has been appointed as a deputy Loudoun County administrator, County Administrator Tim Hemstreet announced today. Govan was promoted to this position following a nationwide recruitment. His appointment is effective July 2, 2026.

During a joint meeting on June 30, 2026, the Loudoun County Board of Supervisors and Planning Commission received an update on the efforts of a recently established Electrical Infrastructure Working Group. The working group was commissioned by the Board of Supervisors last month to discuss electrical infrastructure plans for Loudoun County.

During a Tuesday June 30, 2026, special joint meeting of the Loudoun County Board of Supervisors and the Planning Commission, the Board approved a resolution (PDF) requesting that the Loudoun County School Board hold an emergency meeting at the earliest possible date prior to July 20, 2026, to consider authorizing the use of Loudoun County Public Schools (LCPS) property for the Dominion Energy’s Golden to Mars Transmission Line project. 

The Loudoun County Fire and Rescue Fire Marshal’s Office (LCFR-FMO) investigation determined Saturday night’s house fire in the 20900 block of Deer Run Way was accidental in nature, caused by improperly discarded legal fireworks. Three occupants were assessed on scene and transported to an area hospital for further evaluation. The house of origin sustained significant damage, with two neighboring homes also affected. 

Loudoun County has received approval from the Virginia Supreme Court to establish an Adult Behavioral Health Docket in the Juvenile and Domestic Relations Court, the first of its kind in Virginia for this type of court. 

The docket is designed to: 

• Provide access to safe and effective treatment and supervision for eligible individuals in the community as an alternative to incarceration.
• Reduce the need for crisis services by enhancing the defendant’s access to behavioral health treatment.
• Reduce recidivism, or reoffending.

Motorists are advised that a significant traffic pattern change will begin Tuesday, July 14, 2026, at the intersection of Route 9 and Route 287 for the construction of intersection improvements. The new traffic pattern will shift the intersection southeast of its current configuration with the following impacts for drivers traveling through this area:

• On Route 9, traffic heading east will shift right and traffic heading west will shift left. The existing eastbound lane closure on Route 9 will remain in place.
• On Route 287, traffic heading north will shift right, while Route 287 traffic heading south will shift left.

Beginning July 9, 2026, Loudoun County will launch a new platform for accessing meeting materials for Board of Supervisors and Planning Commission meetings, including agendas, staff reports and meeting videos. 

The Loudoun County Health Department is encouraging anyone who may have come into contact with a rabid cat and/or its kittens in a Chantilly neighborhood to contact their health care provider or the Health Department as soon as possible. This warning comes after one individual had contact with a cat that later tested positive for rabies. 

Jameka Jackson is the inaugural director of the Loudoun County Youth Services Department, Loudoun County Administrator Tim Hemstreet announced today. Jackson, whose appointment is effective July 16, 2026, was selected after a nationwide competitive recruitment. 

The State Corporation Commission (SCC) has modified the procedural schedule of the case involving Dominion Energy’s proposed Morrisville to Wishing Star transmission line, including granting participants in the case more time to provide testimony and extending the deadline for public comments on the project. 

The Loudoun Workforce Resource Center will host a Loudoun Job Fair on Wednesday, July 29, 2026, 10:00 a.m. - 1:00 p.m., at the Ashburn Recreation and Community Center, 21105 Coopers Hawk Drive in Ashburn. The event aims to connect residents to employers and career opportunities and is open to job seekers at all experience levels, individuals seeking career changes or residents exploring new opportunities.

On Sunday, July 19, 2026, the Office of Elections and Voter Registration in Leesburg will be open 11:00 a.m. - 4:00 p.m. for early voting as will the satellite voting locations: Ashburn Recreation and Community Center in Ashburn, Carver Senior Center in Purcellville, Claude Moore Recreation Center in Sterling and Dulles South Recreation Center in South Riding. (Note: A new state law requires that early voting be available on the second and third Sundays before election day.)
