Ashburn Village Common Area Planting Initiative

We want to hear from YOU!

The AVCA is beginning a tree canopy revitalization effort to plant more native trees and shrubs in our common areas, and we need your input to prioritize common area plantings over the next few years. The AVCA is initiating two programs to add native trees and shrubs to our common areas in the fall. You can have a say in what trees get planted and where, by completing the surveys below.

1. Ashburn Village Homeowner Recommendations for Common Area Plantings

Homeowners may provide their input on the common areas most in need of trees and shrubs.

2. Homeowner Common Area Tree Donation Program

For homeowners who want trees planted in the common areas next to their lot (to improve privacy, serve as a sound or light buffer, provide shade, or just to beautify the area), they can speed up the process of getting this done by requesting to have a tree (or trees) planted in the requested location at their expense. Once the request is approved, the homeowner pays the AVCA to have the tree(s) planted, and the AVCA will have the trees planted in bulk across the common areas of Ashburn Village to reduce costs.

Submit today! Deadline for both surveys: May 31, 2024

Changes to Sports Courts Access

(***If you already have access to the Tennis/Pickleball Courts you DO NOT need to sign up for access to the Sports Courts.***)

Dear Ashburn Village Residents,

The Sports Courts at The Lakes Recreation Center will soon have restricted access using an automatic locking mechanism. The system has been put in place to ensure only residents have access to these amenities, and to keep them secure.

The system will go into effect June 1, 2024.  After the system goes into effect, users will be able to unlock the courts during the approved use hours using an app on their phone.

Interested residents should fill out an online form so that management can collect the data needed to upload authorized users to the Brivo system (the name of the security system we are using). Once residents are added to the courts, Brivo will send an email to the email address that was provided, with a link to the app. Users will be required to download the app on their phone and register. Once set up, users will use the app to unlock the gate when in close proximity to it. For guest access, a resident may bring in no more than three guests. Signs will be placed at the gates with instructions for access.

If you have any questions about the new security system, please contact the HOA office at 703-723-7910, or avca@ashburnvillage.org.

Learn About the Tree of Heaven

and the Spotted Lanternfly

Tuesday, May 7th

Ashburn Village residents, there's a problematic plant in our midst. Several have been identified in both our common grounds as well as in your backyards.

The ironically named Tree of Heaven has become public enemy #1 in the fight against invasive plant species in Loudoun.  It is the host plant to the Spotted Lanternfly (SLF), the insect at the center of the Scrape for the Grape effort that took place two weekends ago that had 400+ volunteers across Loudoun destroying SLF egg sacs that threaten our wineries, farms and orchards.

In addition to the Tree of Heaven’s negative economic impact to Loudoun, the environmental impact is arguably even worse.   The fast-growing plant from China quickly both crowds out our oaks, maples and other native trees, while also secreting a chemical into the soil that is toxic to other plants.  This is definitely not a tree one would expect to find in any kind of Heaven.

After hearing about Scrape for the Grape, Lauren Taylor, Executive Director of Blue Ridge Prism, a leading statewide expert on invasive plants, graciously offered to conduct training for Loudoun residents on how to identify and remove Tree of Heaven.  A Zoom call has been scheduled on Tuesday 5/7 at 6:30pm.  Please register here for this insightful session on the invasive plant that is threatening Loudoun County.
