food-for-fines
Food for Fines is an annual opportunity for library patrons to pay down late fees by donating non-perishable food items to the library. Each item donated equals $1 off late fees. If you would like to participate in this event, but you don't have any late fees (good for you, by the way!), you are most welcome to donate food items and have the credit applied to someone else's account. All items will be donated to one of the local organizations serving our community's nutritional needs.
In the depth of winter, I finally learned that within me there lay an invincible summer.

digital-dash
Help us purchase more ebooks by reading more ebooks! DigitalDash is a contest sponsored by OverDrive (if you are already a saavy ebook user, you'll recognize that OverDrive is the company through which we purchase digital library collections). If our ebook circulation reaches 11,523 by December 31, we will be eligible to win credits to purchase new content, and the more we circulate beyond that target, the more we are eligible to win--up to $5000! In the past two months, we've added over 150 titles to our ebook collection so we have a little something for everyone. As of the end of November, we have achieved 92.3% of the goal.
Our Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) program put over half a million dollars back into the pockets of Ashe County residents last year. This vital service is hosted by the library and performed by IRS-certified volunteers between January and April of each year. If you would like to become a volunteer or would like a volunteer to prepare your taxes this year, give us a call. Most people who earn $54,000 or less are eligible to receive free tax preparation through the VITA program. For more details, visit the IRS website.
reading-challenge-wrapup

This year's reading challenge has been a bunch of fun, but we'll be wrapping it up at 11:59 pm on December 31. At the Wrap Up/Kickoff party on Thursday, January 4, we will reveal the 2018 challenge, offer prizes for participants, and play book-related board games. Thank you to all of our patrons who make this program successful year after year. We love getting to know you through your reviews and reading choices. The challenge requires a lot of time and effort, but we love doing it because you love doing it! Here's to another year of great reads with our community of readers.
