Tool to Increase Access to Capital for Small Business Launches

The NC Bankers Association, NC Chamber, NC Rural Center, and NC SBTDC have collaborated on a new online tool to help North Carolina small businesses more easily connect with sources of capital. Capital Opportunities offers a financial institution search feature allowing a business owner to input information on their business and the specific work they are looking to fund, geographic details and preferences, and receive a listing of financial institutions that can meet those needs, as well as a specific person they can contact at those institutions. This week in Raleigh

(compiled by the North Carolina Chamber of Commerce):

Child care has been a recent hot topic. Several bills have been introduced on this issue. The NC Chamber is advocating for those that align with the broad-based goals of the NC Chamber Coalition on Child Care. They see this as an important element that allows more people to enter the workforce.

House Bill 130, designed to give North Carolina's job creators more choice over the energy sources that fuel their businesses, passed the House last Wednesday with a bipartisan vote of 76-33. The bill also included a floor amendment preventing local governments from banning the sale of appliances under the white goods category in retailers in the jurisdiction of a city or county. They see this bill as protecting job creators from the harmful and costly energy choice mandates they have begun to see in other states.

They are monitoring Senate Bill 176 which would make numerous changes to laws impacting consumer legal funding contracts in North Carolina. The NC Chamber opposed the bill last year due to their concern that third-party litigation funding would increase the number of, or prolong, frivolous lawsuits.
