Announcing the 2017 Ashokan Blade Seminar!

 Ashokan Blade Seminar: Sept. 29-Oct. 1, 2017
  The New England Bladesmiths Guild's annual seminar provides an opportunity for both beginners and advanced knife makers to learn from and work with some of the most skilled bladesmiths in the world.You will learn design concepts, metallurgy, forging and finishing techniques, heat treatment, and using your finished pieces. This is a multi-level workshop for beginners and experienced craftsmen alike, with both forging demonstrations by world renowned craftsmen and hands-on forging opportunities. Equipment, steel, and coal will be provided and available for sale to begin your own home workshop!

 Also enjoy meeting members of the Northeast Blacksmiths Association who will be on site with the their own Fall Hammer-In program. See more information below.

Our demonstrator team for the weekend includes lectures and demonstrations by Justin Mercier, Nick Rossi, Jim Kelso, Kevin Cashen, Sam Salvati, and Tim Zowada. Martial arts expert Bill McGrath will be offering a hands-on combat knife class, and one of our favorite entertainers,Tim Wright will be back to dazzle us with his unique perspective on mechanical accuracy, and of course, political correctness! We begin the weekend Friday afternoon with a "Happy Hour" reception and a delicious meal in Ashokan's new spacious dining hall.Tim Zowada will open the seminar with an introduction and program overview, leading into the evenings lectures and open forge time. Saturday's program will include lectures by master bladesmiths Kevin Cashen and Nick Rossi, blade forging and forge welding demos by Sam Salvati and Justin Mercier, and a chance to see how form follows function in combat knife design. The evening program will include heat treatment demonstrations, and the usual display of culinary and beverage delights.Five fully equipped forging stations will be available to work directly with the demonstration team. There's  another Blacksmithing Event at The Ashokan Center!
  • Northeast Blacksmiths Association 2017 Fall Hammer-In will be happening concurrently with the blade seminar. They will be run as two separate events with opportunities to mingle and mix on a limited basis. Please be respectful of each program space, as we try this new approach to accommodate the busy schedule of the Ashokan Center.
