From Our Director
Do you ever get caught off-guard when having conversations with others, whether family, friends, or strangers, about abortion? Not sure what to say?

I am looking forward to  hosting a training in New Orleans this weekend on how to be a more persuasive pro-lifer. There is still time to register to free if you can make it.

But even if you can't, remember a few basic things.

1. Stay calm. I know it's hard, but it pays off.
2. Ask questions. While we have the facts, dialogue and even finding common ground helps advance the conversation rather than just hammering facts into someone's head.
3. Always "trot out the toddler." Ask if common arguments for abortion justify hurting a toddler. When someone says they do not, ask why!

Ask Sen. Kennedy:
Confirm Kyle Duncan

Kyle Duncan Should Be Confirmed to Appelate Court
Email Sen. Kennedy, Ask Him
to Support President's Choice

Louisiana Right to Life is excited about President Trump's recent nomination of eminent attorney and Baton Rouge native Kyle Duncan to the 5th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals in New Orleans. This is an important federal court that is only one level below the U.S. Supreme Court.

KYLE DUNCAN
In addition to serving as a law professor and former Solicitor General for the Louisiana Attorney General's Office, Duncan has won national recognition for his litigation in defense of pro-life state laws, religious liberty, and many other issues. He is the type of judge our federal courts need to ensure we respect the Constitution
, and we need your help to make sure Duncan is confirmed.

In the near future, the U.S. Senate Judiciary Committee will consider this nomination. Louisiana Senator John Kennedy serves on that committee, and we need Sen. Kennedy's vote so Duncan can take his seat on the federal bench.

Can you call and email Sen. Kennedy today and ask him to support Duncan's confirmation to the 5th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals?

Sen. Kennedy's Main Offices:
Baton Rouge: 225.926.8033
Washington DC: 202.224.4623

Duncan is currently a partner at Schaerr Duncan LLP, where he represents clients in trial and appellate litigation. He also:
  • Served for two years as general counsel of the Becket Fund for Religious Liberty, where he managed Becket's nationwide public-interest litigation.
  • Served for three years as the Solicitor General and Appellate Chief of the Louisiana Department of Justice, where he represented Louisiana in a wide range of appellate matters in State and Federal courts, including the United States Supreme Court.
  • Spent four years as an assistant professor of law at the University of Mississippi Law School and two years as an associate-in-law at Columbia University Law School.
  • Served three years as an Assistant Solicitor General in the Office of the Solicitor General in the Texas Attorney General's Office and one year in the appellate practice group at Vinson & Elkins LLP.
  • Clerked for Louisiana-based Circuit Judge John M. Duhé, Jr., of the 5th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals.
Duncan has argued two cases in the United States Supreme Court and has acted as lead counsel in numerous other cases in that Court, including Burwell v. Hobby Lobby Stores, Inc., 134 S.Ct. 2751 (2014), in which he successfully led litigation challenging the Affordable Care Act's contraceptive mandate on behalf of Hobby Lobby Stores.

He earned his B.A., summa cum laude, from Louisiana State University and his J.D. from the Paul M. Hebert Law Center at Louisiana State University, where he was inducted into the Order of the Coif and served as executive senior editor of the Louisiana Law Review. He subsequently earned an LL.M. from Columbia University Law School.

Please contact Sen. Kennedy today and urge him to vote to confirm Duncan to the 5th Circuit!
