Question:

I am trying to get Delta Dental GA to pay for a temporary Flipper for tooth #7. They are denying due to having no history of the tooth being extracted.  The root is still in place and will remain until the patient is ready for the implant. It is staying to preserve bone at site.  I have indicated this on claim to no avail.  Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Answer:

In very few cases an anterior "flipper" placed after an extraction is covered in addition to a subsequent bridge and the interim partial denture is used to hold a space and/or for esthetics while the extraction site heals. Also, a temporary flipper may be limited to patients 16 years of age or younger and only for anterior permanent teeth.

My experience has been that the patient pays for the temporary flipper and saves his/her benefits for the permanent restoration.
