The last time we showcased LIHI’s newest shelter, Aspen Court, the staff was in the process of opening the former Comfort Inn as a 24/7 enhanced shelter for singles, couples and people with pets. Aspen Court is located in Tacoma, has 88 guest rooms and a capacity for 120 people.
Currently 92 guests are staying at Aspen Court. 57% are Male and 43% female. 43% are white, 41% black, 6% hispanic, 5% native American, and 2% Asian.
On January 27th, LIHI staff presented an update on Aspen Court before the Tacoma City Council’s Community Vitality and Safety Committee. At the meeting Heather Moss, Pierce County's Director of Human Services, shared that Aspen Court:
- Increased the number of shelter beds in Pierce County by close to 10%.
- Increased the County's non-congregate shelter capacity for single adults and couples by 50%
- When the facility is converted to Permanent Supportive Housing (PSH) in two years it will increase the County's stock of PSH units for single adults by 20%.
