Aspen Court Update
Aspen Court at 8620 S. Hosmer St., Tacoma, in former Comfort Inn
The last time we showcased LIHI’s newest shelter, Aspen Court, the staff was in the process of opening the former Comfort Inn as a 24/7 enhanced shelter for singles, couples and people with pets. Aspen Court is located in Tacoma, has 88 guest rooms and a capacity for 120 people.

Currently 92 guests are staying at Aspen Court. 57% are Male and 43% female. 43% are white, 41% black, 6% hispanic, 5% native American, and 2% Asian.

On January 27th, LIHI staff presented an update on Aspen Court before the Tacoma City Council’s Community Vitality and Safety Committee. At the meeting Heather Moss, Pierce County's Director of Human Services, shared that Aspen Court:

  • Increased the number of shelter beds in Pierce County by close to 10%.
  • Increased the County's non-congregate shelter capacity for single adults and couples by 50%
  • When the facility is converted to Permanent Supportive Housing (PSH) in two years it will increase the County's stock of PSH units for single adults by 20%.

“Being here is like starting my life over. I feel so rejuvenated and rested. I am blessed to take a shower and not worry about a thing. My first day I slept and rested because I’ve been struggling to for days to find somewhere to rest my head. My phone is charged and I’m ready for anything. My name is Terrance Oliver and I give this place two thumbs up.”

"The program has helped me in many ways. I’ve learned that you can do things when you put your mind to it. The staff have been wonderful. They give you insight on yourself. I would recommend this program to anyone that is homeless or needs help." – Anita Williams

“My name is Gary Bergeson. Before I came here, I was struggling with homelessness and starting to lose my will for recovery. I was asked to come stay here by a police officer who was concerned about me being in the cold weather. Since I’ve been here, I’ve had a chance to rest and begin to plan to better my life. It has given me a sense of security I haven’t had in a long time.”
