Aspirus Medford Hospital is proud to congratulate Morgan Edwards, a registered nurse in the Birthing Center, who was recently recognized with a DAISY Award for Extraordinary Nurses.
Morgan was honored for her commitment and her patient-centered approach to care. The award is part of the DAISY Foundation’s program to recognize the super-human efforts nurses perform every day. The family of J. Patrick Barnes created the DAISY (Diseases Attacking the Immune SYstem) Award in 1999 to honor the memory of their loved one with a tribute to the skillful and compassionate care he received from his nurses during his hospitalization.
Now presented in over 4,800 health care facilities in 29 countries, the DAISY Award provides a way for patients, families and colleagues to give meaningful recognition to extraordinary nurses.
In Medford, a committee of Aspirus volunteers reviews nominations to determine which nurse will receive the DAISY Award. Criteria for recognition includes exceeding the needs and expectations of patients and families by living Aspirus’ core values: Compassion, Accountability, Collaboration, Foresight and Joy.
Morgan was nominated for the DAISY Award by a patient who wrote, "While being induced, I was having contractions, and I went to the bathroom. I had no idea I was ready to have the baby. I stood up and yelled for help! Morgan was quick and ran in to help. She was quick to see what needed to be done. Without Morgan quickly responding and knowing what to do, my son would have been hurt. She didn't hesitate to help, even though it was messy and not a normal situation. We are so thankful for Morgan; she went above and beyond in caring for us! Even while my son was being born, she held my hand and affirmed to me that he was going to be okay. After our son was born, she has been one of our favorite nurses, very helpful and friendly and extremely good with babies! She deserves recognition and this award!"
Congratulations, Morgan!
