Kissing a Pig for the Nurse Practice Council Scholarship

The results are in from the recent "Kiss a Pig" Penny Drive Fundraiser for the Nurse Practice Council (NPC) Scholarship fund.

Sam Frost, Aspirus Medford Clinic manager, was the winner.

All participating departments had a 'deficit' due to the amount of cash/silver monies in their buckets. The Clinic had the most amount of 'Penny Points' in the end.

Together, we raised about $725 to go toward the NPC scholarship fund for local students pursuing a career in nursing.

A big shout out to Aspirus Care & Rehab (ACR) as they raised the most money but also had the most cash/silver monies to subtract from their total 'penny points.' Congratulations to ACR and thank you!!

Thank you to all who participated in the Penny Drive. A special thank you to the Medford School Barn and Mrs. Kopp for providing the kissable pig.

Compassion

Ilene Becker, Catering Specialist

Thank you for all you do for your cafeteria customers. You go above and beyond and I'm always happy to see your smiling face down there!

Accountability

Tristan Przekurat, Environmental Services Aide

Tristan came to collect Confidential items like he always does. When he dumped mine, he noticed a prescription bottle & brought it to me immediately. My purse is next to the bin & fell in the bin by mistake. Great catch! He does an amazing job & brings joy to everyone he is around. Great Job, Tristan!

Collaboration

Sarah Von Loh, RN, Emergency Department

Thank you, Sarah, for staying way beyond your already busy 12-hour shift to assist your co-workers with a challenging patient load. You jumped right in to help; this was so much appreciated by all working in the ED. You are the best!!

Foresight

Lynn Duesing, Certified Medical Assistant, Aspirus Medford Clinic

Appreciate all your work keeping our schedule moving and looking ahead, working on multiple tasks daily. You give genuine and compassionate care to every patient. We value you as part of our team and are so thankful to work with you!

Joy

Lisa Hagen, Certified Nursing Assistant, Med/Surg

Thank you for always staying positive and being willing to learn new roles.

Precycling

Instead of purchasing an item and then figuring out whether it belongs in the recycling or the ol’ landfill bin, precycling is the act of considering where that item will end up before you’ve purchased it.

While grocery shopping, you may be faced with two different types of packaging for the same item. As someone who precycles, you may pick up each item and search for that little recycling symbol or think about which type of recycling your local recycling facility accepts. What if one of those items doesn’t have that symbol or can’t be recycled by your recycling service? Choose the one that can be recycled and leave the other on the shelf.

You might consider two different types of egg cartons, one plastic and one paper. Current recycling trends and market availability would encourage you to choose paper and forget the plastic. You can avoid packaging altogether when you shop in bulk or choose items that don’t have any packaging!
