ASH: Sunflower Award Winner - Zuleyka Marek
Congratulations to Certified Medical Assistant Zuleyka Marek, who was recognized with the Sunflower Award at Aspirus Stanley Hospital and Clinics. Zuleyka is a CMA at the clinic and was nominated by a patient.
From her nomination:
"In the fall, our mom was very sick, and we took her to see Dr. Katherine Jackson-Schneider and we are thankful we did. We feel that Dr. Schneider and 'Z' saved our mom's life. Their team worked with us like we were family with numerous phone calls returned and translated, mostly by 'Z' who went above and beyond. Some in our family have now changed to Dr. Schneider because of 'Z' and her outstanding job and compassion for our mom. Our dad is so thankful to have his wife back...thank you."

NW Division Celebrates a Trio of Good Catch Award Winners
The Good Catch award is based upon a commitment to High Reliability Principles for Safety to bring awareness to situations where an employee's or physician’s actions prevented harm to those we care for.
Congratulations to the following Northwest Division employees who were recognized with Good Catch Awards:
| |
Sarah Fettes
Dialysis
Aspirus Medford
Summary of Sarah’s Good Catch:
Sarah found lactated ringer solution mixed in with the normal saline solution which was the wrong solution to have available for dialysis patients. Because of her good catch, the process for separation of fluids was improved to prevent this from happening in the future.
| |
Tammy Sikora, RN
Med/Surg
Aspirus Stanley
Summary of Tammy’s Good Catch:
Tammy reported a good catch in which another RN found medications within pyxis that were inadvertently located in the incorrect pockets. By reporting this good catch, the medications were able to be reviewed and placed appropriately within the drawers in pyxis as well as identify a fix to decrease the chance of this happening in the future.

Billie Schilling, RN
Surgical Services
Aspirus Medford
Summary of Billie's Good Catch:
Billie identified that vital signs on a patient from PACU were inadvertently selected as verify all when the patient transferred to the Med/Surg department. By identifying this situation, Billie was able to get the vitals validated so incorrect vitals didn’t remain in the patient’s chart. Kudos to Billie on helping ensure accurate information within the medical record.

Food Truck Supports Student Scholarships
During Aspirus Week, the Cravings Food Truck visited AMH with a portion of the proceeds benefiting the Nurse Practice Council Scholarship Fund.
Scholarships are awarded every year to a high school student seeking a nursing degree, and to a non-traditional student already in the nursing program at NTC.
This year our high school scholarship recipient was Christine Czeshinski, a CNA on the Med/Surg unit.
The NTC scholarship will be awarded at a later date.
Thanks to Cravings and to everyone who participated in this event.
