Gregory Werner, PA-C, Recognized with Joy Award from OME
The Aspirus Office of Medical Education (OME) recognizes collaboration and contributions made by Aspirus Physicians and Advanced Practice Clinicians (APCs) as clinical teachers for medical students and advance practice clinician students.
This is the fifth year that OME has recognized these efforts throughout the Aspirus system.
This year’s Joy Award goes to Gregory Werner, PA-C, from Aspirus Medford Clinic.
Gregory demonstrates enthusiasm, teaches with happiness, celebrates student and academic success, and consistently contributes to a positive learning environment.
Below is a submission by a student of Gregory.
“Greg was a great preceptor! One of the most important catalysts for learning is having a preceptor that is enthusiastic to have a student. He was very personable and constantly advocated for me as a student to have the best learning experience possible. He encouraged and supported independence with patient care while still being there to support and teach.” - PA Student

The Northwest Division recently recognized Good Catch recipients for the months of July, August and September.
The Good Catch award is based upon a commitment to High Reliability Principles for Safety to bring awareness to situations where an employee's or physician’s actions prevented harm to those we care for.

Congratulations to Emily Niggemann, Aspirus Care & Rehab, recipient of the Aspirus Medford Good Catch Award. Here is a summary of Emily’s Good Catch:
When completing med pass, Emily identified, when doing check for medications, that the card had full tabs but the order was for ½ tablets. She identified that both the AM and PM cards were packaged incorrectly. She notified Pharmacy right away and was able to get the correct medication dose, so the patient received the correct medication.

Congratulations to Jeanna Tessmer, AMH Day Surgery, recipient of the Aspirus Medford Good Catch Award. Here is a summary of Jeanna’s Good Catch:
When prepping for upcoming surgeries, Jeanna questioned accuracy of a patient that was scheduled for Injection of Trigger Point - Right Middle Finger based on past experiences with provider's common surgeries. Got clarification that request had been made for procedure for Right Middle Finger Trigger Release, which was different than what was scheduled. Jeanna was able to get this corrected in Central Scheduling prior to patient’s scheduled procedure day. Kudos to Jeanna on taking the initiative to be proactive and inquisitive in her preoperative review of patients.

Congratulations to Stacey Prazuch (left) and Karin Rubel (right), ASH Med/Surg, recipients of the Aspirus Stanley Good Catch Award.
Here is a summary of Stacey’s Good Catch:
In preparation for the day, Stacey identified the surgical mesh implant bin was empty, which was needed for a procedure for that day. She contacted Supply Chain right away and was able to help facilitate in collaboration with Supply Chain to get the mesh so that the procedure did not need to be rescheduled. Kudos to Stacey for identifying an issue and reaching out to key stakeholders so the patient’s procedure could happen as scheduled.
Here is a summary of Karin’s Good Catch:
Karin was to give a patient prn Acetaminophen, 2 tabs of 325mg. When she went to remove the medication, she identified that the wrong dose of Acetaminophen was in the drawer. She caught the error when checking the medication and got the correct dose for the patient. Kudos to Karin on utilizing her five medication rights, which identified the potential error.
Thank you to Emily, Jeanna, Stacey and Karin for your actions to keep our patients' safety a #1 priority!

The main area impacted is the parking lot located directly outside of Cardiac Rehab entrance/south of the ambulance garage. There is new signage that will be implemented with these changes.

2023-24 Influenza and COVID-19 Safety Programs
The compliance deadline for participating in our employee COVID-19 Safety Program has been extended to December 1. Aspirus employees and medical staff members now have until this date to either get vaccinated or complete an online COVID-19 vaccine declination form.
The deadline has been extended due to ongoing delivery and processing issues from Moderna. The supply of updated COVID vaccines has been sporadic throughout the system, limiting team members’ ability to access the vaccine in time for our previous deadline.
Moderna has confirmed additional vaccines will be provided to Aspirus by the end of October. Aspirus Employee Health & Wellness will be coordinating additional vaccination clinics or accommodations for individuals who want to receive an updated COVID-19 vaccine. Watch the intranet and our vaccination schedule for updates.
No Changes for Influenza
There are no changes to our October 31 participation deadline for our annual Influenza Safey Program. We have an abundant supply of influenza vaccines and vaccination clinics have been held throughout the system over the past several weeks. Clinics are available through the end of October. Aspirus employees and medical staff members must receive their vaccine or complete an online Influenza vaccine declination form by October 31 to avoid disciplinary action.
Reminders
-
Outside vaccination – Any COVID-19 or influenza vaccinations received outside of clinics offered by Employee Health & Wellness need to be documented. This can be done via the intranet using the “Data Transmission” option on the Employee Health & Wellness page.
-
Masking – Masking requirements are based only on influenza vaccination status. Anyone declining the influenza vaccine will be required to wear a mask within Aspirus facilities for the duration of influenza season. Masks will not be required for anyone based on COVID-19 vaccination status. Masking related to COVID-19 is subject to change independent from vaccination status based on future COVID-19 activity or impacts.
Thank you for your patience and participation in these programs that support a safe work environment and help us protect our most vulnerable patients.
