Regulatory Tip of the Week: Sharps Containers

Why: If proper practices are not followed regarding sharps disposal, we can inadvertently create safety risks, which can lead to accidental needle sticks, which may cause serious infections.

Call to Action:

Do not place garbage cans under a sharps container as a sharp may inadvertently be tossed into the garbage can instead of the sharps container.
Do not fill a sharps container more than three-quarters (¾) full. The sharps container displays where to not fill above the line to ensure that no sharps splurge out of the container.
Make sure the sharps disposal container is upright and stable for use. If located on a countertop, it should sit in a base to ensure stability.
Only sharps should go into a sharps container – not empty vials, wrappers, gloves, blood-filled syringes (without a needle attached), etc. Did you know we pay for disposal based on weight? When non-sharps material gets put into sharps containers, our costs go up.

Each month through September, we will be hosting a different food truck participating in fundraisers for Aspirus Divine Savior-Volunteers.

This is an important program of community members devoting their time and efforts to promoting health, wellness and happiness in our community.
