Passion for Excellence. Compassion for People.

Every day, we show compassion for our patients, their loved ones, and one another. Below are a few recent examples from our intranet's Recognition Wall. To recognize a co-worker or view more staff recognitions, click here.

Amanda Sweet, Emergency, Aspirus Stevens Point Hospital

Thank you for always doing tasks without being asked and never giving anyone grief when asked to do something. You are so important here and appreciated. I hope you know that. I love working with you, and I am grateful to have you as part of our ED TEAM.

Vicki Alft, Laboratory, Aspirus Riverview Hospital

"We give our best to drive quality, no matter the circumstances." There were an excessive amount of pathology specimens late in the day to be packed up for the courier. Vicki went above and beyond to stay late to ensure those critical specimens were packaged up and ready. Thank you!

Jennifer Schultz, Emergency, Aspirus Plover Hospital

Jen ~ Thank you so much for working extra yesterday! You know how those sick calls can cause so much stress!! I really appreciate you working until 0100! You are a great team player, and it shows in your work ethic! Thank you very much!

Ann Oligney, Physical Therapy, Aspirus Riverview Therapies

A community member recently stopped me to report what a fabulous job Ann did with her vertigo treatment. She was amazed by the treatment provided and its effectiveness at treating her dizziness. Awesome work, Ann!

Diane Beigel, Med/Surg/ICU, Aspirus Stevens Point Hospital

You were recognized by a patient during leader rounding. He stated that you are the nicest person he has ever met! Thanks for all you do for our patients!

Derrius Bournes, Emergency Medical Reception, Aspirus Plover Hospital

Derrius ~ Thank you so very much for picking up these last two days! It is so helpful. Thank you for always coming to work with such a great attitude and a smile on your face. If you think about our patients, it is so welcoming to them when they walk in and see your smiling face! Thank you!

Because We Love

Aspirus Doctors Clinic Walk-In

We were seen by Ryan Beine, PA-C. He was absolutely wonderful. He made sure to listen to my concerns as a parent and made me feel more at ease about my son's condition. I brought my son into the walk-in when they closed in roughly 15 minutes. I kept apologizing for coming in so close to closing time, and he assured me it was fine and that my son would be seen and to not worry about the time. Not once did I feel rushed even though we came in so close to closing time. You could tell PA-C Beine truly cares about his patients and their well-being. I would recommend anyone to be seen by PA-C Beine. I want to thank him for his wonderful care and compassion he showed my son.

From Aspirus Nekoosa Clinic

Dr. (Craig) Flinders has been absolutely amazing. He not only listens to and addresses my concerns but is not afraid to refer me to a specialist when he feels it's needed. His entire staff is always welcoming and knowledgeable. I truly feel I'm in good hands with my entire healthcare team. I couldn't ask for better.

From Aspirus Doctors Clinic

Dr. (Brittany) Myszka was very thorough, pleasant and professional. She listened attentively to my health concerns and gave me valuable feedback. I am very pleased to have her as my doctor going forward. Overall, my experience was very positive. I felt respected and valued from the time I entered the front door, starting with the receptionist. Thank you.

And here's a glowing post from the Facebook group Positively Wisconsin Rapids Wisconsin.

Patient Safety Tip

18-Inch Rule

Why: The 18-inch rule applies only to areas that have sprinklers installed. This is done to allow an even and unobstructed spray pattern from the sprinklers when triggered to extinguish the fire.

What to Know: Picture a horizontal plane parallel to the ceiling that is 18 inches below the sprinkler heads. Nothing should be in that area between the bottom of the sprinkler heads and the imaginary horizontal plane parallel to the ceiling that is 18 inches below.

Call to Action: Remove any top-shelf items that extend beyond 18 inches vertically and horizontally from any sprinkler head. This includes signage and decoration hanging from the ceiling.

News Story Spotlights Aspirus Stevens Point Paramedic

Congratulations to Mitchell Imlah, paramedic, Aspirus Stevens Point Hospital Emergency Department. Mitch was recently spotlighted in a news story about his military service, his May 20 graduation from UW-Stevens Point, and his plans to become a doctor.

In the story, Mitch talks about graduating from Rosholt High School with a 1.9 grade point average, serving as a medic in the U.S. Air Force, earning his paramedic's license, then graduating from UWSP in three years with a biochemistry degree and 4.0 GPA while also working as a paramedic in our Aspirus Stevens Point Hospital's ER.

What's next for this ambitious guy? Mitch hopes to attend medical school at the Wisconsin Academy for Rural Medicine, part of the UW School of Medicine and Rural Health. He says he would like to be a doctor in a rural or underserved area. "I like being in places that don't have a lot of resources, where I can do the most help."

We are proud of you, Mitch and wish you the best as you pursue your goals!

Packing Healthy Road Trip Snacks

Road trips usually mean fast food or gas station snacks - often loaded with sugar, salt, carbs and caffeine.

Ashley Chrisinger, registered dietitian with Aspirus Stevens Point Hospital, recently visited WSAW TV's morning show to offer tips on packing healthy on-the-go meals and snacks.

"If we wait until mealtime to decide what we should eat, whether we're on the road or out and about, we're surrounded by things that are a lot less healthy and a lot less affordable," Ashley shared. "If we pack our own, which takes a little bit of pre-planning, we can bring all of the food groups and have them right on hand."

“Refined carbohydrates like cookies, donuts, and things available at gas stations feed our brains fast, but the energy won’t last," Ashley explained. "And these sources of sugar aren’t good for the rest of our bodies."

We did it! Now it's time to celebrate.

Thanks to everyone who took our most recent employee engagement survey, we reached our participation goal and will be celebrating with cookies!

Our goal was to have at least 70% of our Southwest Division team take the survey, and we achieved 70.8% participation.

On June 7, your leader will pick up the cookies for your team and distribute them.

Congratulations, thank you and enjoy!

Kindness Closet Needs Donations of T-shirts & Sweatpants

Our Aspirus Riverview Hospital Kindness Closet in the ER is in urgent need of men’s and women’s t-shirts and sweatpants (or pajama pants). The greatest need is for sizes M, L and XL; but other sizes are also appreciated. Donations can be new or very lightly used.

These items are given to our ER patients whose clothing is damaged/soiled and don’t have appropriate clothing to wear home. So if you are shopping, visiting garage sales, or cleaning closets, please keep our ER patients in mind.

Donations may be delivered to the ER waiting room reception desk – Attention: Rochelle Anderson-Tesch.

Thank you!

Project SEARCH Interns Graduate
