Jennifer Schultz, Registered Nurse, Emergency, Aspirus Plover Hospital
Thank you for working so closely with the walk-in team over this weekend by assisting with a patient who had some mobility issues and assisting with a procedure to ensure excellent patient care was provided.

Cayla Victor, Certified Medical Assistant, Behavioral Health Clinic-Stevens Point-Wilshire Boulevard
Cayla ~ Thank you for being so flexible and always willing to travel to other sites to help out when short staffed...especially today, when we unexpectedly had no MAs in one of the BH clinics. We are so lucky to have you on our team!
| |
Monica Arndt, Registered Nurse, Intensive Care Unit, Aspirus Riverview Hospital
Great catch on the telemetry patient this week. The provider states you noticed a critical detail while getting sign out, and you communicated it promptly. Great work!!
| |
Jeremy Grawey, Maintenance Mechanic II, Maintenance, Aspirus Stevens Point Hospital
Jeremy is a great addition to our awesome maintenance team! Welcome, and thank you for being a hard worker who is willing to learn!
| |
Josh High, Dietary Cook, Food Services, Aspirus Riverview Hospital
Thank you for stepping up and recognizing the chaos on Monday. You came in mid-morning to a bit of chaos and helped pick up the pieces throughout the noon hour and for the rest of the day, when things finally quieted down. We all appreciate your teamwork!! :)

Soua Xiong, Registered Nurse, Emergency, Aspirus Plover Hospital
On a recent shift in the Plover ED, I observed Soua supporting two very anxious patients. I appreciated your calmness, respect, and listening to these patients when they were vulnerable, not at their best, and needed our help. You treated them with dignity and worth. A fine example to follow.

Patient Safety Tip
Ensuring critical instruments and devices are appropriate for reuse
| |
Why: Proper point-of-use cleaning of reusable instruments is important because it decreases the number of microorganisms on the surface of instruments. Reducing microorganisms:
- Prevents the formation of biofilm.
- Decreases the risk of surgical site infection.
- Supports the efficiency of decontamination processes.
- Maintains instruments in good working condition.
At point of use:
- Place reusable items in leak-proof, puncture-resistant container.
- All disposable items contaminated should be discarded into an appropriate, puncture-resistant container used for sharps.
Transport container to dirty utility at this point if part of your process.
- Don proper PPE (gloves, eye protection, and gown is needed).
- Wipe any gross soil from instruments.
- Ensure hinged instruments are in the open position.
- Spray each instrument LIBERALLY with instrument pre-cleaning product to saturate.
- Secure lid on transport container.
- Label container and lid with a biohazard sticker.
Call to Action:
- Ensure instruments are cleaned and decontaminated AS SOON AS POSSIBLE after use.
- Follow the policy for cleaning reusable items contaminated with blood, body fluids, and/or tissue.

Shaylee Houben Wins Good Catch Award
Kudos to Shaylee Houben, Registered Nurse with Aspirus Stevens Point Hospital's GI Center. Shaylee is the winner of ASP's most recent Good Catch Award.
Shaylee caught that a patient had an allergy but was not wearing an allergy armband. She retrieved an armband and ensured it was placed on the patient.

Aspirus Dietitian Shares Tips for a Healthy Halloween
Kudos to Ashley Chrisinger, Clinical Dietitian with Aspirus Stevens Point Hospital. Ashley was up very early Monday morning to share her expertise on WSAW's morning news.
Halloween candy was the very timely topic of conversation. Ashley recommends feeding your kids a healthy meal before sending them out to trick or treat. "Give them something with protein, something with fiber, something that's going to help them self-regulate a little bit better," she shared.
Ashley says the big message to drive home for kids is moderation. "There's a nice middle ground where I encourage parents to involve their kids in a conversation about what is a decent amount of candy? Why don't we eat candy all the time? What are the nutrients that our bodies really need?"

Grateful Husband & Father Commends Our Team
The following compliment was recently shared via the Aspirus website, reminding us all what a difference we make every single day.
I’m writing simply to tell you guys what phenomenal experiences we’ve had as of late at your location. It all started when we had our daughter at your birthing center. Every nurse, surgeon, receptionist, and maintenance person we met during that weekish-long period was nothing short of fantastic. Everyone made us feel comfortable, welcomed, and unburdensome in a situation where we could have easily been perceived as a burden, being first-time, brand new parents and with a difficult delivery. Special shoutouts for that occasion include Dr. Kolrud, who my wife absolutely adores and continues to provide us with top-notch care every single time she sees my wife; and Tessie, a nurse who was on her last couple of days with your company, who could have easily taken the approach of, “I’m out of here soon, who cares?” But didn’t, and treated us in such a way that it created a lasting impression that we look back on fondly to this day.
The next occurrence was tonight, when we took our extremely fussy baby and my wife into the ER, both suffering from an ear infection. Our baby was not herself, and was raising a fuss for the ages. The two individuals who handled us in the ER were Dr. Ross, and a nurse who I believe was named Linda. From the second we set foot into the room we were seen in, Dr. Ross and Linda took off with our baby with a very special kind of rapport, one that would make it seem as though they had known our baby since she was born. We were treated with such extreme kindness, compassion, and genuine care on a night that was extremely busy. They made us feel like we were the only patients in the building. The way they interacted with our baby was a godsend. I have never in my life received a quarter of the level of service in an emergency room as I received tonight. You guys have built a truly phenomenal staff, and my only wish is that you share my words with them in hopes they understand that in a world that is sorely lacking in human compassion and general kindness, they are beacons to the contrary. My wife and I left with smiles on our faces, and with every interaction they were able to put a smile on my baby’s in her time of need. That type of service goes a long way and won’t soon be forgotten. Thank you, from the bottom of our hearts, for everything you guys do each and every day. Please always remember that you are making an incredible difference in the world.
