DAISY Award Winner - Angie Butzke, RN

Congratulations to Angie Butzke, RN, on being chosen as the most recent winner of the Aspirus Ironwood Hospital DAISY Award.

Angie was nominated by a patient who called the Ironwood Emergency Department to notify them that she was bringing her father in for a possible stroke. The patient said they were met at the door and, once inside, Angie went above normal professionalism. The patient stated the ER became very busy with ambulance traffic and Angie was extremely attentive to their needs as well as dealing with other important patient care situations.

The AIW DAISY Award recognizes the super-human efforts nurses perform every day. These nurses, such as Angie, exceed the needs and expectations of patients and families by displaying our core values: Compassion, Accountability, Collaboration, Foresight and Joy.

May is Mental Health Awareness Month

Helpful resources and webinars for employees

May is Mental Health Awareness Month – a time to prioritize and focus on our mental well-being. This is a crucial reminder, as our mental health is an important part of our overall well-being.

During this month, let's focus on taking care of ourselves and those around us. Remember that it's okay to not be okay and to seek help when we need it. Let’s work together to spread awareness about mental health and break the stigma that often surrounds it. Mental health affects everyone, regardless of age, gender, race or social status. It's important we create a safe and supportive environment for everyone to talk about their struggles and seek the help they need.

So, let's take the time to check in with ourselves, our co-workers and our loved ones, and to practice self-care and self-compassion. Remember, your mental health matters, and you are not alone. There are many resources available to us, whether it be talking to a therapist, reaching out to a loved one or practicing self-care.

  • 1 ½ teaspoons sugar
  • 1 clove garlic, minced
  • 1 tablespoon fresh dill, minced
  • 1 teaspoon dried oregano
  • ½ teaspoon garlic powder
  • ¼ teaspoon salt
  • Freshly ground black pepper, to taste

Salad:

  • 1 pound cherry or grape tomatoes, cut in half (OR about 3 large tomatoes, seeded & chopped)
  • 1 pound cucumbers (approximately 2 large or 4 small), peeled & diced
  • ½ cup Kalamata olives, drained, pitted, & chopped
  • ½ cup feta cheese, crumbled
  • 2 tablespoons fresh dill, chopped (for garnish)

Instructions

For the Dressing:

  • In a medium bowl, whisk together the olive oil, vinegar, sugar, garlic, fresh minced dill, oregano, garlic powder, salt, and pepper until thoroughly blended. Alternatively, you may measure the ingredients into a jar, tighten the lid, and shake until incorporated, or blend together in a blender or mini food processor.

For the Salad:

  • In a large bowl, combine the tomatoes, cucumbers, olives, and feta. Whisk or shake the dressing and pour over the top. Toss together until all of the ingredients are evenly coated.
  • Cover the salad and refrigerate for at least 4 hours, removing from the refrigerator 30 minutes before serving. Stir well, garnish with dill, and serve with a slotted spoon to drain off any excess dressing.
