Open Enrollment

This year’s annual Open Enrollment period is October 31-November 20.

This will be an active enrollment, meaning you must take action to enroll in benefits for 2023. Employees in an Occasional and Supplemental status who become eligible for health insurance under the Affordable Care Act provisions will receive a separate communication.

To participate in the Aspirus benefits plans for 2023, all benefit-eligible employees will need to make your benefit elections in Global Human Resources (GHR) during the Open Enrollment period. Benefits elected will take effect January 1, 2023. You will not have benefit coverage in 2023 if benefit enrollment is not completed.

Your dependents’ Social Security numbers (SSN) will be required for 2023 due to government reporting requirements. Your dependents’ name and SSN must match the dependents’ social security card. If you don’t know your dependents’ SSN and do not have your dependents’ social security card, you can request a replacement by contacting your local Social Security office or online.

Be sure to watch for upcoming communications on how to access 2023 benefits materials as well as future articles spotlighting some of the great new benefits available to Aspirus employees.

Patient Experience Spotlight: Learning From Our Patients

In the August 16 edition of the UP Region newsletter, we shared that our Leadership team (supervisors, managers, directors, VPs) are proactively and purposefully ROUNDING with our patients.

In the last 30 days, our leaders across the UP have logged 114 patient rounding encounters!

Congratulations to our leaders who are committing to this effort. You are living our value of Accountability.

And thanks to all the staff members who are helping our leaders make these meaningful patient connections!

A reminder about WHY they are doing this:

  • To understand our patients’ experiences and capture their stories.
  • To make extra personal connections with some of the hundreds of people who walk through our doors every day.
  • To reinforce to patients that we care about them; we know patients feel less anxious and more engaged when they feel seen and heard.
  • We know that if we can address concerns or dissatisfiers in the moment, we spend less time trying to “fix” problems later.
  • One of the best things about rounding with patients is that we hear more reasons to celebrate YOU every day! Patients are telling our leaders, in the moment, how much you do for them!

We even ask this question to patients who take our HCAHPS survey (the survey patients get when they are discharged from an inpatient stay): Were you visited by a member of the hospital leadership (supervisor or manager) during your stay? Yes/No

Keep up the great work, UP Aspirus TEAM!!

Because We Love, We Lead

Every day, Aspirus staff do amazing things for our patients, visitors and each other. Here are just a few examples randomly selected from the Rewards & Recognition section on the intranet.

You can recognize employees who go above and beyond by visiting the Rewards & Recognition site.

Because We Love

Andrea King

Receptionist

Aspirus Iron River

Andrea is always willing to help in any way she can. She takes each task presented to her with a smile on her face. If she's ever frustrated, you would never know. Thank you for helping in every way that you do!

Rodd Hessler

Ultrasound Technologist

Aspirus Ironwood

Rodd came over one day last week to help out with Echos when one of our techs was on vacation. I've been a sonographer for many years, but recently I've been training in Echo. Rodd is very patient & knowledgeable. I really appreciate all his help and the tips he showed me in just a short time!

Tina Bedore

Patient Care Administrative Specialist

Aspirus Keweenaw

I would like to say how much I appreciate Tina always being so cheerful at work. As a busy clinic, she ensures our linens are stocked in the treatment rooms and spray bottles are filled to make sure each therapist is able to expedite patient care without running for necessities. Tina always sounds so cheerful when interacting on the phone or in person and we value and appreciate her! Thank you, Tina, for all you do to help the clinic run smoothly!

Brittany Penegor

Occupational Therapist

Aspirus Ontonagon

Brittany, thank you so much for the traveling you have done to help the other UP OT departments! You have been mentioned many times in my leadership meetings and the rounding I have done! Can't tell you how much it is appreciated!
