Greetings!

This newsletter announces the next Mount Horeb action, spurred by the indefensible fascism which has besieged America. As we commemorate the 250th anniversary of the founding of America, we are witnessing in real time the dangers which come from fascist regimes. We also share a topical video and remember another successful Mount Horeb rally against injustice.

REMINDER - DICK CATES WILL BE SPEAKING AT BRIX CIDER TONIGHT, JANUARY 11, AT 6:00. MEET THE AUTHOR AND HEAR HIS THOUGHTS ON AGRICULTURE IN THESE CURRENT TIMES WE ENDURE.

MOUNT HOREB POP UP RALLY
THIS WEDNESDAY, JANUARY14, 10:30 AM

AT LIBERTY PARK

Our powerful sign brigade will once again line Springdale Street in Mount Horeb on Wednesday morning from 10:30 to Noon. We will meet at Liberty Park, 1201 Cox Drive in Mount Horeb. This action is driven by the recent murder of Renee Good, gunned down by ICE thugs in Minneapolis. It is driven by the countless acts of violence against "we the people" perpetrated by the Trump regime. It is driven by the lack of due process and acts of brutal barbarism. It is driven by the use of secret police and the inhumanity and immorality which have been brought to bear. We encourage folks to bring signs that memorialize Renee. We ask that you display your signs before or after the rows of featured signs. Please dress for the weather and bring to this peaceful assembly your resolve to resist fascism in all of its forms.

Good VS ICE

STOP ICE FOR GOOD

AN EXCELLENT POST BY ROBERT HUBBELL

This is the moment. Take to the streets in peaceful protest.

We are living through a deeply unsettling moment in our nation’s history. Each of us is being called by our country to come to its aid. We must do so without hesitation or reservation. The time for incremental change and accommodation is long past. The moment is now. We must rise to defend democracy, decency, and humanity today. Tomorrow will be too late.

On a June Day in 2020, hundreds of area residenyd met in opposition to the killing of a Minneapolis Black man, George Floyd. SWWAP initiated that action. Immediately high schools students organized testimonials on behalf of many people of color across the country killed by police. Wisconsin Assembly Representative Shelia Stubbs served as keynote speaker and gave an impassioned plea for a more civil and just society. After the rally at Grundahl Park, hundreds marched downtown, ending up at Brix Cider in fellowship.

And now, tragically another ICE murder, of a white mother from Minneapolis, Renee Good. Wednesday we will honor her legacy. As with George Floyd, Renee's death has galvanized a nation, bringing into sharp focus the brutal tactics used by those in power. The following details the 2020 Mount Horeb Event. As you read the account recommit to working on behalf of justice for all who call America home.

THE DAY OUR COMMUNITY SPOKE AS ONE

For Renee Nicole Good

Killed by I.C.E. on January 7, 2026

by Amanda Gorman

They say she is no more,

That there her absence roars,

Blood-blown like a rose.

Iced wheels flinched & froze.

Now, bare riot of candles,

Dark fury of flowers,

Pure howling of hymns.

If for us she arose,

Somewhere, in the pitched deep of our grief,

Crouches our power,

The howl where we begin,

Straining upon the edge of the crooked crater

Of the worst of what we’ve been.

Change is only possible,

& all the greater,

When the labour

& bitter anger of our neighbors

Is moved by the love

& better angels of our nature.

What they call death & void,

We know is breath & voice;

In the end, gorgeously,

Endures our enormity.

You could believe departed to be the dawn

When the blank night has so long stood.

But our bright-fled angels will never be fully gone,

When they forever are so fiercely Good.

The following is a post by Mike McCabe. SWWAP welcomes Mike to Brix Cider on February 15, at 6 pm. All are invited to attend this event which highlights Mike's first novel and perspectives on these troubling times we endure.

The Thrill of the Blank Page

All was calm one moment, such a clatter arose the next, waking us from a long winter’s slumber to news of invasion, explosion, abduction. The breaking down of doors, the breaching of someone’s domicile, how twistedly fitting, seeing how the first month of the year’s name derives from the Latin word for doorway. A start like this makes you think we’re in for a long year of rough sailing. Batten down the hatches.
