NJ Assisted Suicide !!
Dear Neighbor,
Recently the New Jersey Legislature passed a bill that made legal the act of assisted suicide. Whether you were for or against, the bill is now water under the bridge as it passed both houses and is awaiting the governor’s signature. He has promised to sign it. Regardless of whether A1504 will be signed into law, we as legislators are obligated to protect our constituents.
Reading the bill very carefully before casting my vote I found numerous flaws that the sponsor and the supporters refused to address. Therefore, I am compelled to introduce legislation to correct several glaring anomalies.
The first anomaly I bring to your attention highlights the inconsistency of the penalty associated with “
A person who, without authorization of the patient, and with the intent or effect of causing the patient’s death, willfully alters or forges a request for medication or conceals or destroys a rescission of that request, is guilty of a
crime of the second degree
.
”
The second inconsistency is “A person who coerces or exerts undue influence on a patient to request medication pursuant to or to destroy a rescission of a request is guilty of a
crime of the third degree
.”
Both of these acts are tantamount to murder and should incur a penalty of a
crime of the first degree,
mandatory 25 years to life. Just because the patient is sick, weak, and vulnerable and may not be long for this earth, the severity of the crime resulting in an individual’s death remains infamous. This morning I have asked the staff at the Office of Legislative Services to prepare the legislation that would amend A1504 to reflect the changes I have outlined above.
Sincerely,
Assemblyman Robert J. Auth

Flowfollies Music Comedy Production
|
On March 10th Assemblyman Auth attended a wonderful production put on by the FLOW Follies at Indian Hills Regional High School. Since 1986, FLOW Follies has been a unique example of volunteerism in the communities of Franklin Lakes, Oakland and Wyckoff. The production was wonderful and a lot of money was raised for students at Ramapo and Indian Hills High Schools scholarship funds.

Assemblyman Auth supports
Girl Scouts Cookie Sales in North Jersey
|
|
Assemblyman Auth supported several GSNNJ troops at their annual cookie sales events in Hillsdale, Closer, Mahwah, Norwood and Ramsey. Troop 5988 completely sold out of stock, but not until Bob bought 2 boxes for veterans. Mahwah Girl Scouts had a container to donate cookies to our troops overseas, that’s where the boxes Bob bought went.
Proceeds stay local and help teach girls essential skills they can use to be successful today
and
in the future—it's a sweet deal.

Over his Spring break, Anthony volunteered for Common Ground Relief, a program originally formed a week after Hurricane Katrina hit New Orleans in 2005, to help aid the citizens. He and five other Ramapo College students, along with students from Rutgers and Iowa State University, planted shrubs on Elmer's Island, just off the Gulf of Mexico, and trees in four inches of muddy, murky water in the Bayou Sauvage National Wildlife Refuge. Anthony’s work made a positive impact on the community of New Orleans while bonding with some awesome people! Anthony recommends this experience if you want to help the environment.

Spotlight Montvale
Montvale is a small town of about 8,000 people on the northern edge of Bergen County. Montvale has been a great example of local government. Montvale has not seen tax increases in the last two years and this year is planning to see a tax cut! Even with tax cuts Montvale has a $5.3 million dollar surplus, AAA bond rating, and will be repaving the roads. A business friendly community with a recent addition of 115 new businesses with a shopping center anchored by Wegmans. The future shovel-ready projects will begin to earn revenue for the town starting next year with an anticipated $4.5 million annual tax revenue in a $20 million overall municipal budget. Aside from a great business community, Montvale is conveniently located near the Garden State and Palisades Parkway, while hosting a train station on the Pascack Valley Line.
