Assessing Next Steps with Cal Am Desal

The Marina Coast Water District would like to thank the hundreds of customers who attended the California Coastal Commission hearing on the proposed Cal Am desal plant in person, via zoom, and by phone. It is clear there are many people in our community that are deeply concerned about the proposed Cal Am desal, and we appreciate the citizens and local leaders who spoke passionately about their views.

Although we are disappointed that the California Coastal Commission approved Cal Am’s desal proposal, this isn’t the final word on the project. MCWD will continue to protect our coastline and water supply, and ensure all ratepayers continue to receive quality service at a fair cost as we assess what our next steps will be.

Winter is a Great Time to Replace Your Lawn

Watering a large lawn can be expensive! For customers with large lawns, it's common to see 50% or more water usage going to their lawn. The irrigation of large lawns in summer can lift water usage to the highest water cost tier.

Replacing your lawn with drought tolerant plants can reduce landscape water demand by over 75%. Even more water savings can be achieved by replacing lawns with zero-water-use landscape materials like decorative rock and artificial grass.

Our lawn and sprinkler replacement incentives can jump-start your project. Learn more details about replacing your lawn at the link below or contact our staff at [email protected]. Please note, your project must be pre-approved before any work to replace your lawn can begin.
