MPAC in your riding: Summer community events | | |
This summer, MPAC representatives will be out in communities across Ontario, attending events hosted by MPPs and speaking directly with residents. It’s a valuable opportunity to meet constituents where they are, answer their questions, and build confidence in the property assessment process.
We were recently pleased to join MPP Steve Pinsonneault in Strathroy, MPP Jill Dunlop in Orillia, MPP David Piccini in Cobourg, and MPP Laurie Scott in Beaverton and Haliburton for their events for seniors and older adults. We also participated in community BBQs hosted by MPP Sheref Sabawy in Mississauga, MPP Bill Rosenberg in Elliot Lake, and MPP Joseph Racinsky in Rockwood. At the events, MPAC representatives set up a booth and spent time with residents one-on-one, walking them through how their property assessments are determined, explaining what affects assessed value, and helping them understand their options if they had questions or concerns.
The positive response we received at these events reinforces how much residents value face-to-face access to property assessment information.

MPAC AboutMyProperty™ e-notifications now available

MPAC is making it easier for Ontarians to stay informed about their property assessments.
Pursuant to recent changes in legislation enabling the digital delivery of Property Assessment Notices, property owners can now receive electronic notifications through MPAC AboutMyProperty™ when a notice is available.
This new feature will trigger an email notification to registered users who have updated their mailing preferences, letting them know when a new notice is available to view online. Property owners who have enabled electronic notifications will no longer receive paper copies of their notices.
For Ontarians, the benefits are simple:
- Faster access to important property information.
- More choice in how they receive communications.
- A more convenient, streamlined experience.
Electronic notifications build on existing access to property assessment notices in MPAC AboutMyProperty™, giving Ontarians greater control while maintaining the same secure, reliable process they depend on.
Property owners may now update their delivery preferences in MPAC AboutMyProperty™ upon registration. If you are engaging with current users, they can find the new feature under the ‘Manage my account’ section.

| | Seniors and Persons with a Disability Property Tax Exemption | | |
MPAC administers a property tax exemption that shields a portion of a home's assessed value when modifications were undertaken to help a senior (aged 65 or older) or persons with a disability to remain living independently. The exemption has been applied to approximately 2,000 properties across Ontario.
Once approved, the exemption stays in place for as long as the qualifying resident continues to live there and is confirmed by MPAC every two years. The exemption may apply to a:
- Renovated or modified existing homes
- Custom-built accessible residential homes
- Accessible garden suites built for a family member
Property owners can apply for the exemption by contacting MPAC directly and providing details about the improvements to the home. There is no fee to apply. Property owners are also responsible for notifying MPAC of any future changes to the property's use or occupancy.

| | MPAC releases updated residential housing data sources | | |
In June, MPAC released an update to the property insights (housing inventory) map, a resource that allows individuals to review and analyze a decade of Ontario’s housing data. New data provides an updated view of Ontario’s housing market, building on insights previously shared in 2024, and shows early signs of correction from conditions in 2022.

The MPAC AI Roundtable is a quarterly advisory initiative that brings together senior voices from academia, law, technology, and government to guide responsible AI adoption at MPAC. A core guiding principle is "human in the loop," ensuring human oversight is built into AI workflows at every stage.
The roundtable advises MPAC on AI implementation, facilitates the exchange of best practices, and works toward producing governance guidelines applicable to public sector organizations more broadly.
Since its launch in early 2025, the roundtable has informed MPAC's internal AI journey, including an employee-driven idea campaign that generated over 130 use case submissions, and the development of an in-house AI platform called MPAC Orchestrator. Tools now in use include Support Assistant chatbots for IT, HR, and property valuation.
Looking ahead, the roundtable is focused on scaling MPAC's AI story to municipalities across Ontario and contributing to national conversations on public sector AI governance and procurement.
| | 2026 Assessment Information Request Program | | |
MPAC's Assessment Information Request Program is one of our key initiatives in supporting efforts to maintain accurate property records, deliver quality assessments, and inform changes to Ontario's property landscape. The program includes a number of data collection campaigns, including pipelines, grain elevators, aggregate sites, and the Property Income and Expense Return.
Where property information is required, MPAC will send an information request outlining what information is needed, when property owners are required to submit the information to MPAC, and details on how to submit it. Property owners are required to comply with MPAC’s requests by the campaign deadline.
Property Income and Expense Return
Our largest campaign is the Property Income and Expense Return where information is requested from more than 39,000 income-producing properties, including multi-residential, commercial, retail, hotels, motels, golf courses, offices, and industrial malls. Request letters were sent to property owners on May 27, with a submission deadline of July 22, 2026.

Building on our recent engagement with elected officials and staff at the Northwestern Ontario Municipal Association (NOMA) and Federation of Northern Ontario Municipalities (FONOM) conferences, and national conversations at the Federation of Canadian Municipalities (FCM) Conference, we’re continuing to bring forward what we’re hearing from communities across Ontario and Canada – and connecting those insights to practical supports that can help inform local decision-making.
