Highlights from the 2025 Ontario Budget

MPAC is pleased to see strong alignment between our new strategic plan and several key initiatives in the province’s 2025 budget. We welcome the government’s direction and look forward to continued collaboration in support of Ontario’s evolving needs. Additionally, the budget notes that the review of Ontario’s property assessment and taxation system is ongoing, and we look forward to future announcements.

Property assessment-related highlights from the Budget include:

  • Beginning in 2026, municipalities will have the option to reduce the municipal property tax rate for eligible affordable rental housing units by up to 35 per cent.
  • Changes to legislation will enable MPAC to deliver assessment notices electronically starting in 2026.
  • Introducing legislation to provide regulatory authority to facilitate expanded use of MPAC property assessment information, such as for research and operational needs.
  • Announcing that work is underway to enable MPAC to provide centralized online access to assessment roll information rather than requiring on-site viewing in municipal offices.

These initiatives reflect our shared commitment to modern, responsive public services. MPAC is proud to support these priorities and looks forward to bringing these improvements to life in partnership with the government and municipalities across the province.

Invite MPAC to your summer community events!

If your constituency office is hosting a summer BBQ, local fair or open house for your constituents, we would be excited to attend. MPAC frequently engages with property owners across Ontario to help them understand how property assessment and taxation work. Our Government Relations team brings a branded booth, helpful one-pagers on key assessment topics and giveaway items – and we’re happy to answer questions directly from constituents. It’s a great way to provide trusted information and support in your community.

If you’d like MPAC to attend your upcoming event, contact James Harvey, Manager of Government Relations.

Data that works for you!

Our Government Relations team is continuing to promote data products for MPPs this summer. These custom data products help MPPs better understand their ridings and strengthen engagement with constituents. Some of the most requested data products include:

  • Local business stakeholder lists
  • Farm listing with soil classification
  • Vacant land reports
  • New housing development reports

If you have an idea about how MPAC data could help support your local work, reach out to James Harvey to explore the opportunity further.

Looking back at 2024: MPAC’s Annual and Performance Reports

MPAC was pleased to release two reports earlier this year celebrating our innovations and achievements from 2024.

The 2024 Annual Report showcases some of the major events and initiatives we undertook with the support of our municipal and provincial partners, including the 2024 Government Relations constituency office tour.

Great conversations at NOMA & FONOM

MPAC’s Government Relations and Municipal and Stakeholder Relations teams attended the 2025 Northwestern Ontario Municipal Association (NOMA) and the Federation of Northern Ontario Municipalities (FONOM) conferences, along with MPAC Board Chair, Alan Spacek, our President and CAO, Nicole McNeill and Vice President, Public Affairs and Customer Experience, Jamie Bishop.

We had positive discussions with our provincial and municipal stakeholders and were pleased to see strong attendance at our exhibitor booths and speaking sessions. Thank you to everyone who took the time to connect with us at these events. We look forward to seeing even more of you in Ottawa in August at the Association of Municipalities of Ontario (AMO) Conference.
