Lake County will be mailing homeowners in Fremont Township their "blue cards" with the assessed values of their homes on July 7th. Please look at these values immediately. if you disagree with the value on your property, Fremont Township homeowners only have until August 8th to appeal. This is a reminder that the only time for Fremont Homeowners to appeal their assessment is between July 7th and August 8th. Many people wait until they receive their property tax bill to try to contest the assessment. That is too late.
If you have evidence to provide the Fremont Township Assessor that you feel proves you are over assessed, call their office at 847 223-2846.
If it all seems too confusing and you would like help to see if you are over assessed, Lake County is offering residents one on one help with a member of the Chief County Assessment Office staff to help with evaluating your property tax assessment. This class is at the University Center of Lake County, 1200 University Center Drive, Grayslake, Illinois on Wednesday, August 3 from 4:00 – 7:00 p.m. Click here for schedule
This is a great time to make sure you are receiving all of the exemptions you are entitled to. Click here to view them.
Homeowners turning 65 need to make sure they file for the senior homestead exemption. We see people all the time who are unaware of this and it saves you money on your property tax bill!! Questions? Call 847 223-2846.

Our office administers general assistance and emergency assistance to residents with financial hardships in Fremont Township.
Our food pantry serves over 1000 people a year and we have a wonderful vegetable garden run by Fremont Township Resident Alicia Dodd and many volunteers. This provides fresh produce to our low income seniors and neighbors in need. The garden is harvested on Tuesdays. Residents in need can call or stop by to see if there is a harvest.
Thanks to our generous donors, we receive beef, pork and lamb from the Lake County Fair livestock auction. We appreciate the food drives throughout the year by local schools, churches, businesses, neighborhoods, Scout Troops, the Post Office, Park on Park and the annual Grand Dominion Car Show. We also are thankful to the residents we see daily who drop donations at our office.
If you are aware of neighbors in need, please refer them to our office. We are the only local government agency that provides these services, resources and referrals. They can call us at 847 223-2847.

A mosquito pool sampled June 23 in Highland Park has tested positive for West Nile virus. The mosquito pool is the first confirmed indicator of the disease’s presence in Lake County in 2016. In 2015, five human cases of West Nile virus were reported in Lake County. In addition, 68 pools or batches of mosquitoes and one bird tested positive for the virus.
The Health Department maintains a West Nile virus hotline for county residents to report areas of stagnant water (which are conducive for mosquito breeding), or to obtain more information on the signs and symptoms of West Nile encephalitis. The West Nile hotline number is: (847) 377-8300. Information can also be found at: www.fightthebitenow.com.
Recommendations to prevent mosquito breeding include:
- Discard old tires, buckets, drums or any water holding containers. Poke holes in tires used as bumpers on docks
- Keep roof gutters and downspouts clear of debris
- Keep trash containers covered
- Empty plastic wading pools at least once a week and store indoors when not in use
- Drain unused swimming pools
- Fill in tree rot holes and hollow stumps that hold water
- Change the water in bird baths and plant urns at least once a week
- Store boats upside down or drain rainwater weekly

To receive the “VETERAN” designation on your driver’s license/ID card, veterans must obtain official certification from the Illinois Department of Veterans’ Affairs. You can do so by one of two means. Visit one of the IDVA offices throughout the state and provide a copy of your DD-214 or Certification of Military Service (NA Form 13038) or complete the process by mail.
To obtain the certification by mail, veterans must complete a Consent to Release of Information (Click Here for Document) and send it along with their DD-214/NAF 13038 and a legible copy of their driver’s license/ID card to the local veteran service officer. Requests may also be Faxed to (217) 782-4161 or mailed to the below address:

The IDVA will certify the discharge document and mail it back to you. After the necessary certification is obtained from the IDVA, you may apply for a new, renewal or updated driver’s license or ID card at any Secretary of State Driver Service’s facility.
The designation will be no additional cost for first-time driver’s license applicants and driver’s license renewals. If you choose to add the designation before your renewal date, you may obtain an updated driver’s license for $5 and an updated ID card for $10. Veterans over the age of 65 can obtain an updated state ID card at no cost.

If you have used towels, sheets or blankets that need to be recycled, please consider bringing them to Fremont Township at 22385 Route 60, Mundelein to be donated to local Animal Shelters and Rescues. You can drop them off in the bin on our front porch. This keeps them out of the landfill and puts them to good use.
We also accept eye glasses and shoes to be recycled. If you are disposing of shoes that have laces, please tie the laces together.
