Assigned Pooling

(Soho Orchid in Smooshy Cashmere - Gold Record Blues)

We love this simple and beautiful technique known as 'Assigned Pooling" or "Intentional Pooling." Very simply, you change stitch patterns when you come to the accent color change.

We just got a shipment of Smooshy Cashmere dyed specifically for the technique. We're showing it here in the pattern Soho Orchid, a free download. We did it in one skein, but if you want a larger shawl we'd recommend two skeins.

There are many patterns designed for this technique. You can do searches for the phrase 'assigned pooling' and you're sure to find some you like!

In addition to the special-dyed Smooshy Cashmere, we suggest Splash (cotton based) and Dash (wool based), both from Berroco. There's a fun cowl knit in Dash at the link that showcases a unique application of this technique by doing a bobble at the color change.

Who's a good boy?

Fetch, a cute dog sweater, can be made using color work, striped, or just do it all in one color using Ultra Wool from our friends at Berroco.

Ultra Wool comes in a large range of colors, is soft, durable, as well as machine washable, making it the perfect yarn for a dog sweater!

It's not too early!

It's the end of July and we're thinking of gifts and other fun projects for the holidays!

Let's start with this fun Christmas Stocking. It's knit with 3 skeins of Cardo, a bulky yarn from Manos del Uruguay that's so fabulous to work with. It's a durable yarn that will help insure your piece will be around for many years to come.

Pick your favorite color combinations and make them for yourself, your friends, and family! You can also personalize them even more and embroider names or other decorations using a contrasting, thinner yarn. As we say, express yourself!

Join Us On-Line Thursday Evenings

Every Thursday from 4:30 PM Pacific to 6 PM Pacific, we host "Stitching in your Slippers" on line!

It's a fun group of crocheters and knitters from all across the country. It's the group you don't know you wanted!

We also meet in-person in the shop on Sunday's from 1 -3 PM Pacific!

One of our most popular sections of the store is the sale corner! And why not? These aren't bad yarns, just yarns that are usually either discontinued or we just need to make room for the next shipment of fabulous yarn.
