Association Announces the "Stay Safe to Stay Open" Campaign

Like you, we are concerned about the rising infection rate of the coronavirus in Utah. We are equally concerned with the potential impacts this could have on our state’s economic recovery. The retail and business community has an important role to play in achieving a balance between these health and economic imperatives. To that end, I want to give you a preview of the “Stay Safe to Stay Open” campaign and pledge the Utah Food Industry Association and Utah Retail Merchants Association is launching in partnership with the Utah Department of Health and Salt Lake Chamber .

This statewide campaign is to inform and support businesses in understanding and following safety guidance from the Utah Department of Health. The centerpiece of the campaign is a safety pledge that businesses can take which demonstrates to employees and customers a commitment to follow this guidance.

Businesses participating in the campaign will be able to clearly identify their participation by colorful signage displayed in their windows and throughout their establishments, demonstrating that they have taken a pledge to follow the state’s guidelines and that their team will:

  • Conduct temperature checks or health certifications before work and stay home when sick
  • Wash hands frequently and avoid touching face and eyes
  • Practice physical distancing including wearing face coverings in close common areas
  • Learn about high-risk groups and help protect them
  • Cover mouths when coughing or sneezing
  • Clean high-touch surfaces frequently
  • Follow updated public health guidance

Participating businesses will be listed in an easily searchable online database at  stayopenutah.com , informing consumers that they have agreed to comply with state guidelines.

Taking the “Stay Safe to Stay Open” pledge is as easy as 1… 2… 3… 4.

  1. Go to stayopenutah.com.
  2. Read and take the pledge to follow the guidelines above.
  3. Fill out the short form.
  4. Receive an email confirmation with instructions on how to obtain the signage that demonstrates your company has taken the pledge to “Stay Safe to Stay Open.”

We are all in this together, and the goal of the Utah Food Industry and Utah Retail Merchants Associations is to help the industry come back from the economic effects of the coronavirus, stronger and more resilient than ever. To ensure recovery, and to protect our friends, neighbors and loved ones in the process we will all need to “Stay Safe to Stay Open.”

Sincerely,
