Maritime Association News

As we enter 2023, I want to take a moment and express my gratitude to the membership and Board of Directors of the Maritime Association of the Port of NY & NJ -- all of you.

The Association is fortunate to have the most devoted and enthusiastic members, volunteering their time to help guide not only the Association but its employees and me. It was invigorating this past year to be surrounded by so many professionals who make what we do possible; advocating, protecting, and encouraging trade through the region. We love your passion for our Association and your enthusiasm for what we create, your pride for the maritime community in New York & New Jersey as we continue to do our best to exceed your highest expectations.

We hope you will join us in celebrating a huge milestone of the Maritime Association of NY & NJ in 2023, 150 years! In 1873, New York’s maritime community was so busy and so optimistic about the future of the port’s seaborne trade that the Maritime Association of the Port of New York was organized and today’s additional business coming through the NY-NJ port has helped keep it the busiest US port for the fourth month in a row.

We not only want to celebrate this milestone for us, but also celebrate all of our members from the past and present. Make sure to renew your membership, you won’t want to miss what we have in store for an exciting 2023 and beyond!

Wishing you all the best.

BOEM Aims to Cut Offshore Wind Red Tape

The first Outer Continental Shelf (OCS) renewable energy regulations were promulgated in 2009 by BOEM’s predecessor, the Minerals Management Service (MMS). BOEM's renewable energy program has matured over the past 13 years, during which time BOEM conducted eleven auctions and issued and managed 27 active commercial leases. Based

on this experience, the Department has identified opportunities to modernize its regulations to

facilitate the development of offshore wind energy resources to meet U.S. climate and renewable
