Bill to Limit North Atlantic Right Whale Regulations Moves out of Committee

With strong support from the maritime industry and maritime interests throughout the U.S., the House Natural Resources Committee passed H.R. 8704 in September. The bill would prohibit amendments, updates, modifications, or expansion of the current NOAA North Atlantic Right Whale vessel strike reduction rule until at least December 31, 2030. It would also establish a grant program to develop, assess, and carry out activities to reduce whale strikes, such as deploying avoidance technologies, raising awareness of existing NARW management measures, and developing on-water approaches to support water-user co-existence.
