The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA), National Ocean Service (NOS), Center for Operational Oceanographic Products and Services (CO-OPS) is holding a series of virtual workshops for NOAA’s Physical Oceanographic Real-Time System (PORTS®) Program to better understand the data and gauging needs and funding required to expand, enhance, or implement PORTS at all seaports in the U.S. and its territories and commonwealths. NOAA PORTS® is a robust information system that measures and disseminates real-time oceanographic and meteorological data that mariners need to navigate safely.

New York State Ocean Acidification Task Force (NYS OATF) has published a draft report titled Ocean Acidification: Its Causes, Impacts, and Mitigation; A Report to the New York State Legislature. The draft report is available for public review and comment.

As of July 10th, Maher Terminals switched to a Paperless TIR system. System Administrators can apply for paperless TIRs via Maher’s website. Drivers need to sign up for a Driver Customer Service Package account in order to reprint a paperless TIR.

2023 Report on Economic Value of the New York-New Jersey Port Operations Released

The Port Industry of New York and New Jersey accounted for nearly $15.7 billion in tax revenue, supported over 563,700 jobs, and was responsible for $47.2 billion in personal and $135.3 billion in business income in the region in 2022, according to a new economic impact study released today by Shipping Association of New York and New Jersey.

BOEM Announces Approval of Ocean Wind 1

The Department of the Interior’s Bureau of Ocean Energy Management today announced it has approved the plan for construction and operations of the Ocean Wind 1 project offshore New Jersey. Located about 13 nautical miles southeast of Atlantic City, the project will have an estimated capacity of 1,100 megawatts of clean energy – capable of powering over 380,000 homes – and is expected to create more than 3,000 good-paying jobs through development and a three-year construction cycle.
