Why is the Feast of Assumption about our Redemption?
by Fr Geoffroy Plant
Although the Assumption was only formally proclaimed a dogma by Pope Pius XII in 1950, it is an ancient feast in the Church's liturgical calendar. Although today's feast focuses on Mary, it is essentially a Christological feast, celebrating the victory of Jesus over sin and death. Paul describes Christ's resurrection as the first fruits of those who have fallen asleep. Mary's Assumption is possible because of her Son's resurrection; her Assumption is part of the harvest following the first fruits; it is her share in her Son's victory over every sovereignty, authority and power. "A Slow Cure is the Best Cure,"
Ralph Martin, Renewal Ministries
This week Ralph comments on the saying of St. Francis de Sales: "A slow cure is the best cure," and shows how profound our need for healing is and yet, how committed the Lord is to healing us from inside out.
