How to Help Kids Navigate Cyberbullying
We’ve been talking about cyberbullying in Technology class this month. The online world can be a place of connection—but it can also be where hurtful words are shared. Cyberbullying includes mean messages, exclusion, rumors, or threats sent through texts, games, or apps. Even if your child isn’t being targeted, they might see it happening to someone else. That’s why it’s important to talk early and often about what to do if they witness or experience online cruelty. Reassure them that they can always come to you without fear of losing device privileges. Together, you can come up with a plan: not responding to mean messages, blocking the person, saving evidence, and reporting it to a trusted adult or platform.
Action step: Ask your child if they’ve ever seen someone being treated unkindly online. What did they think or feel? Use this as a starting point to talk about how to stay safe and stand up for others online.
