Thanks to everyone who came out to Trunk or Treat - what a successful event! A special thanks to the PTL for organizing and running it! There are a few photos below.

The Food Drive continues at Aston - We are collecting non-perishable food items to help support Mt. Hope's food bank. Please donate! The drive runs throughout October.

Lock Down Drill - On Wednesday, October 30, at 9:30 AM, we will participate in a practice lock down drill. This is only a drill and we will start talking to students about it tomorrow. Officer Shane Coyle, our school resource officer will be there to assist. Students will be told this is only practice and that our school is safe. We will explain what to do if there was ever a serious emergency while emphasizing that is not likely to happen. Please talk to your children about this drill. The students will know it is coming and stay in their classrooms until we unlock their doors. The drill takes about 20 minutes. Contact Ms. Phillips if you have any questions.

Poetry Contest Winners!

Thank you Mrs. Robb, our incredible library assistant, for organizing and running a poetry contest for our students. Below are the winners and their poems!

2nd Grade Poem

by Ellie Kisela

Fall

Leaves falling

Wind blowing

Black cats meowing

Apple picking

Football kicking

Candy licking

Children tricking

Boo!

2nd Grade Poem

by Grayson Boone

My Home Run!

Playing baseball can be tough

The sand is very rough

I hit with a bat in my hand

Where will the ball land?

There is a cheering crowd

They are getting very loud

I hit and then I run

That part is very fun

I tag all of the bases

I see some familiar faces

I slide at home in the dirt

I am safe and not hurt.

3rd Grade Poem

By Lucy Wood

Flamingos are Cool

Flamingos are a type of bird

They live in waters and they do submerge.

They live in high plateau, cold desert and lakes

I really hope they don’t see snakes!

This is why flamingos are pink.

They eat shrimp and I think shrimps wink

I really like flamingos, I do

How about you?

3rd Grade Poem

By Gia Mancinelli

Autumn

Autumn is here

The leaves are falling and change colors

And winter is waiting for its time

4th Grade Poem

By Emma Lare

Poems are Like You

I am creative

I am smart

You are the same

Just as much.

4th Grade Poem

Ellie Havis

A Day in a Park (4th grade)

A day in the park

Makes it fun for the day

You walk along for fun all the way

You see the lights and like it

You sing lyrics and hide it

You play and dance in the park and stop hiding secrets

You like and laugh and turn around

And when you finish you run around and play

Then you go get ice cream and be done the rest of the way

A day in the park is good for the day

You laugh and learn and then you go

That's what a day in the park is like.

5th Grade Poem

By Scarlett Mahoney

Chicken Livers for Dinner

“Try these,” said mom, handing me a plate.

“I’m sure they are something you will not hate”.

She said, "They are delicious and quite nutritious”.

“What are they?” I cried.

They are something I never tried.

Tiny, slime, small, and brown.

No way they are going down!!

Except…. to the floor

For the dogs who want more!!

5th Grade Poem

By James Mulkey

Nature (Haiku)

Leaves crunching

Absolute silence

Mountain breeze
