Sick

By Vinny Spina

My head feels heavy

Like a huge bowling ball,

Perched on my neck, ready to fall,

My nose feels stuffed, with cotton and glue

A swollen red bulb with only one sound, ACHOO!

My throat scratches when I try to talk,

Like a wooly winter scarf, too tight on a walk,

My cheek bones press like a mask too small,

Being sick is no fun at all,

Everything above my shoulder aches

Until Dad says, “Come on eat, I made pancakes.”

I’m a Snowflake

By Ellena Keppler

I’m a snowflake

I’m a snowflake

In the air

In the air

Whirling, twirling, snowflake

Whirling, twirling, snowflake

Here and there

Here and there!

I Love Books

By Tessa Hoesch & Lucy Wood

Books take us on magical rides.

Books make us smart.

Fairy tales and nonfiction, I love it all!

Books mean a lot to all of us.

When we read, we smile.

I love books, what about you?

2nd Grade Winner

Summer

By Aria Wagner

Summer is here, I could hardly wait!

My birthday’s in July, I’m turning 8!

I like to go to the pool,

The water feels cool.

And we are out of school.

We’re going to the beach for vacation

It smells like BBQs.

2nd Grade Winner

My Snow Day

By Grayson Boone

Snowflakes are falling.

No birds are calling.

We have snowball fights,

and put up Christmas lights.

I go sledding down the hill.

It gives me such a chill.

I am cold and tired,

So I warm up by the fire.

And since I’m done playing in the snow

I get to drink hot cocoa!
