A Note from our Executive Director

Dear Lori,

This past July 4th brought mixed emotions as I considered attending Goleta's first-ever drone show. With many in our community feeling unsafe at large events, I was reminded of how important it is that we work to ensure everyone feels safe and welcome at community celebrations.

I decided to attend, and the evening brought an unexpected bright moment when the organizers invited a young girl to the stage. She lit up the crowd with her confidence and clear voice. From way in the back, I couldn't see her face, but the moment she spoke her name, I knew exactly who she was—one of our recent LEAP graduates!

Watching her speak so boldly reminded me what true independence looks like. As parents and teachers, our goal isn't just to celebrate independence once a year, but to nurture it every day. For our youngest children, independence means finding their voice when they need help, managing big emotions with words, and proudly declaring "I can do it myself!" when putting on their shoes.

That little girl on stage embodied everything we hope for our students—the confidence to speak up, the ability to shine in front of a crowd, and the independence that comes from feeling valued and heard.

Now that's something worth celebrating with fireworks.

Warmly,

Lori Lander Goodman

Executive Director

LEAP with Santa Barbara Trapeze

We’re thrilled to be the featured nonprofit at Santa Barbara Trapeze Company’s Community Day on Saturday, July 26, from 3–6 PM! This free event opens the doors for local families to explore trapeze, camps, and kid-friendly activities. LEAP will be on-site selling raffle tickets and sharing our work with the community. Bring the kids, try the trapeze, and LEAP into something new with us!

Keep an eye on our social media for more details. We’d love to see you there!

Meet our Site Supervisor, Alyssa!

Alyssa is the Site Supervisor at the Phelps Children's Center campus. She’s been with LEAP for a year now, and here’s what she had to say about what makes it special:

"Every day, I get to see the smiling faces of the children as they are welcomed by their teachers when they walk into their classrooms. The teachers' love and care for the children at the center is a huge reason why I love being a part of LEAP! I get to work alongside teachers who share their passion for guiding young children."

Thank you, Alyssa, for all that you do!
