UPDATE: Johnson Ave and Kappock Street

After months of advocacy the NYC Department of Transportation (DOT) will be installing a traffic signal at the intersection of Johnson Avenue and Kappock Street.

This intersection has been the source of anxiety for many of our neighbors who regularly drive or walk it. Devastatingly, we lost a beloved neighbor at this location. We worked tirelessly to get safety improvements to prevent tragedies of this kind from ever happening again.

We are deeply grateful to the community and advocates for safe streets, who were dedicated working partners in our effort to install a traffic light.

If there are other dangerous intersections in the district you are aware of, please bring it to my office’s attention.

Nourish Program at the Amalgamated

I am thrilled to announce that we have partnered with NY Common Pantry and the Amalgamated Housing Cooperative to provide food for our older adults.

This program is open to the public.

Fire Safety

Drop-off sites for donations have received overwhelming support throughout the city. Most, if not all, of these sites are no longer accepting in-person donations. You can continue to contribute to the families through the NYC Mayor’s Fund

In the meantime, here are 5 ways to keep your neighbors, your family, and yourself safe.

Self-closing doors, smoke alarms, and stove knob covers can save lives. If you do not have any or all of these, please contact your landlord or managing agent.

You can also visit this website for more fire safety tips.
