Dear League Presidents & Delegates:
This communication is to inform our affiliated member organizations that US Soccer has adopted a new Athlete and Participant Safety Policy. As part of US Soccer’s new policy, MSYSA must incorporate specific components into our risk management program. These components include prohibited conduct, background screening, education & training, reporting, limiting one-on-one interactions, and enforcement. US Soccer will be providing its Organization Members, including MSYSA, with templates designed to assist in the issuing of the new policies. US Soccer requires that its Organization Members issue the new policies by February 14, 2019. The procedures/communications regarding these requirements must be issued in a manner calculated to effect compliance on or before September 1, 2019. As required by US Soccer, the MSYSA Board of Directors anticipates adopting a specific athlete and participant safety policy after the New Year. This work is in progress and will be communicated when available.
Note: As relayed in previous communications, MSYSA currently offers online awareness/prevention training, at no cost, using an access code, through the U.S. Center for SafeSport. The awareness/prevention training consists of three (3) training modules which include: Sexual Misconduct Awareness, Mandatory Reporting, and Emotional & Physical Misconduct. For information on accessing and completing the training, please click
Be advised that while the completion of the awareness/prevention training is currently available and recommended, all MSYSA Adult Members will be required to complete the training on or before September 1, 2019. Please share this information with your MSYSA affiliated Adult Members. An application programming interface (API) that interacts with our GotSoccer registration system should be available in early 2019.
MSYSA will continue to provide you updates on any new or anticipated future changes to our rules and policies.
