Breakfast of Champions, Oct. 7

Homecoming Saturday's Athletic Booster Club and Ballard High School Foundation Breakfast of Champions is 9:30 a.m. Saturday in the Commons and has sold out.

Thanks to everyone who purchased a ticket for the "Empowering Women Through Sports" themed pancake breakfast and program, as well as the many volunteers, and the student athletes and coaches who will be joining our presenters: Seattle University Athletic Director Shaney Fink, student athlete Peyton Nakagawara '24, alumni athlete Nancy MacGeorge '14, Softball Coach Dale Griffith and more. Ticket holders can look forward to another informational email soon with FAQs and full event details.

We can't wait to share how much we raise for Ballard athletic teams and this year's special focus, mental health initiatives that will benefit all Ballard students. And we're so proud to honor Sue Stimac Verduin '78, Ballard's first inaugural Woman of Impact Award winner, and Beaver and Seattle U Redhawks legend.

If you didn't sign up in time for this year's breakfast, we hope to make this an annual community event. And if you'd like to contribute to this year's fundraiser, either supporting mental health programs, a BHS team, Cheer or Dance Team, you can do so here and we thank you for your consideration and support.

Meet Photographer Ed Tanaka

BHS sports fans have long been treated to exciting action shots to football, basketball, soccer and more behind the lens of graduated BHS parent Ed Tanaka, including this gorgeous shot with the band and Beaver Brigade intent on the action as a looping pass nears the Ballard receiver's hands against Rainier Beach Sept. 29.

We were wondering how long Ed has been at this, and he was happy to share his story.

"My son attended BHS (2010) and played JV basketball. Since varsity parents are busy watching their student athlete the initial goal back in 2008 was to capture one action 8x10 of each senior player. I was then approached by the Athletic Director to capture action images of underclassmen which would be used the following school year in a sports schedule collage," he said.

"Over the years, being a volunteer photographer has allowed me to give back to this great community with the support of the Athletic department and coaches allowing me the opportunity to capture student athletes in various Ballard HS sports. I was also honored to be a part of the entry ceiling gymnasium mural during the major hallway renovation."

Thank you so much Ed! You can follow Ed's work @edtanakaphoto
