During the break basketball had a lot of action with a tournament and games.
12/23 Buckingham (W) 48-39 - The varsity team battled through a tough part of the season and came away with an excellent defensive game vs cross-town rival Buckingham. Brian Laxamana led all scorers with 25 pts.,13 reb. Freshman Will McCarthy had another great game as a starter adding 12 points.
12/27 Dixon (L) 32-61 - Coming off the break and playing a pressing team like Dixon was difficult. VCS battled to a 15-9 first quarter, but the pressure led to many turnovers for fast break points for Dixon. Brian Laxamana had 12 pts, and Dylan Eddings put in 9 pts in the loss.
12/28 Armijo (W) 52-39 - We shook off the problematic loss and gave a full effort on defense to equal the score from an early-season loss to them. Playing with confidence, all the players scored. The defense created offense, as VCS could keep their scorers in check with excellent team defense. Again, Brian Laxamana showed that he should be considered for the All-Tournament team with another powerful performance, leading all scorers with 17 points and controlling the paint. Dylan Eddings chipped in 11, and Will McCarthy added 7 points, respectively. VCS played for the Consolation Championship for the first time at the Ram Jam Tournament at Dixon HS.
12/30 Sonoma Valley(L) 51-73 - The boys’ varsity basketball faced a tough matchup against Sonoma Valley in the Dixon Ram Jam tournament, ultimately falling 73-51 in a competitive contest. Despite the loss, the Falcons showed grit and determination throughout the game.
After the first quarter, the score was 15-9, as Sonoma Valley capitalized on its size and perimeter shooting to build an early lead. Vacaville Christian worked to close the gap with strong defensive effort and moments of offensive brilliance, but turnovers and cold shooting stretches allowed Sonoma Valley to maintain control of the game.A bright spot for the Falcons was Brian Laxamana's performance. His consistent play inside, throughout the tournament earned him a well-deserved spot on the All-Tournament Team. The loss marks a learning opportunity for our young squad as they continue to develop chemistry and improve throughout the season. "Even though we didn’t get the result we wanted, I’m proud of the fight our guys showed," said Coach Snelgrove. "Brian’s performance this weekend is what we know he can do night in and night out, and his recognition as an All-Tournament player is well-deserved.”
1/3 Woodland Christian (L) 58-43 - The start of the league began with the league favorite, Woodland Christian. The Falcons were ready for a battle. After the first quarter, the game was tied 18-18. Throughout the second quarter, it was a back-and-forth defensive posturing, it was a scoring drought that put the Falcons 13 points down at the half. The 2nd half turned out to be even as Falcons lost the second half by only 2 pts holding Woodland Christian to 9 pts in the 3rd. Brian Laxamana led VCS with 16 pts., Adam Foreman chipped in 7 pts., Dylan Eddings with 6 pts. and Siifan Ayana and William McCarthy added 5 pts. each respectively.
1/5 Golden Sierra (W) 76-55 -The Vacaville Christian Falcons hosted the Golden Sierra Grizzlies and secured a decisive 67-55 victory. The game was tightly contested in the first half, with Golden Sierra leading 21-18 at the end of the first quarter. By halftime, the Falcons had closed the gap, trailing by just one point. In the second half, Vacaville Christian dominated, particularly in the third and fourth quarters, to seal the win. Brian Laxamana led the team with an impressive 24 points. Dylan Eddings came close to a triple-double, contributing 11 points, 14 rebounds, and 8 assists. Freshman William McCarthy made a significant impact, starting and finishing strong with 16 points. Taiyo Douglas stood out as the team’s overall leader, guiding the Falcons to victory.
This win improved Vacaville Christian's overall record to 7-7 overall, and 1-1 in the SDL.
