Condor Athletics Teams Drive Underway

The OC Foundation works closely with various campus programs to raise funds to enhance programs and benefit students. Among the current efforts is a fundraising drive to support Oxnard College athletic teams.

Funds raised through the Athletic Teams Drive pay for items not covered through the annual budget, including additional travel, equipment, and uniforms. To date, the drive has raised over $15,000 from over 200 incredible supporters.

El Concilio Awards recognize two very important members of the Oxnard College community.

El Concilio Family Services honored six community leaders at its 33rd Annual Latino Leadership Awards, recently held at the Museum of Ventura County. While we're extremely proud of each of the honorees, two impact the Oxnard College community on a regular basis.

Marcos Rodriguez

Marcos is the first person you meet in the OC Welcome Center, who's a wealth of knowledge for students and visitors.

Marcos provides support, training, and guidance to OC students. He mentors younger youth with his involvement with Future Leaders of America and Ventura County Big Brothers Big Sisters.

Swap Meet Justice

Under the direction of Vanessa Frank and Adrienne Coulter, a contingent of 30-40 community organizations provide services to nearby residents every last Sunday of the month. Community members are advised of their rights in immigration, employment, debt, and estate planning. They are provided vaccinations, diabetes, and blood pressure testing, and much more.

Fire Academy's Apparatus Bay dedicated to Ed French

The Oxnard College Fire Academy unveiled its latest multi-use facility last week, dedicating it to the Academy’s founder, Ed French.

Construction began on the $6.4 million state-of-the-art facility in 2019. It provides a learning space for students and cadets to gain hands-on experience with tools and fire science apparatus, helping develop and hone their firefighting skills. The facility also houses the program’s equipment and fleet of firefighting vehicles.

“We are excited to expand our facilities at Oxnard College’s esteemed Fire Academy based in Camarillo,” shared Dr. Oscar Cobian, interim president of Oxnard College. “Our new apparatus bay provides much-needed space for Ventura County’s next generation of firefighting recruits to develop their skills and house the program’s expansive inventory of cutting-edge equipment.”

Ed French, for whom the facility is named, established the Academy in 1997. With few resources available at the time, Mr. French worked quickly to assemble a team, develop partnerships with local firefighting and public safety agencies and launch the program. Since the academy’s opening, the program has produced well over 2,200 firefighting graduates across 60 battalions who have gone on to serve in fire and public safety careers here in Ventura County and throughout the United States.

The Oxnard College Fire Academy is located near the Camarillo Airport and sits alongside the Ventura County Fire Department’s Training Center.
