President's Message
Patrick Adamson, MAI, SRA
|
Well, it has been another interesting first half of the year. We have had the hopeful last few waves of the pandemic and a whirlwind of economic events and conditions that will hopefully pass with a smaller impact on the markets than anticipated. Either way, it’s part of our job to watch and hopefully everyone is staying busy providing many types of appraisal services.
My goal as Chapter President is to reach out more to AI Professionals, who aren’t involved, and foster good and fresh ideas. So far, we have had a lot of promising discussions surrounding topics like diversity with our new DEI Committee, University outreach with our Public Relations committee and we are getting back in touch with the State Board with our Government Relations committee. I look forward to seeing what the State of Atlanta Conference will hold and I urge everyone to keep raising their hands and become more involved. While I have made fantastic contacts and have grown my network of peers tremendously over my time in leadership, I would love to see different faces and backgrounds become involved.
More specifically, I would like to reach out to our residential appraisers and find out how we may better serve this portion of our industry. My career started in 2003 as a single-family residential appraiser for banks and mortgage companies. I completely understand some of the issues and questions related to that side of the business. I pursued my MAI and SRA with hopes of opening doors to all types of assignments. So far, that choice has been the right one; because, I am confident that the experience of obtaining both designations, as well as the actual designation, has allowed me to connect with clients and learn how to complete complex assignments that I would not have been able to do without. Mortgage based appraising is a completely different type of workday and while the process involves some of the same principles and applications of approaches, it can be like a completely different job. The Appraisal Institute is the resource for information regarding our industry for law makers and the vast majority of the laws and regulations presented impact residential appraisers; so, we need to have those appraisers involved in our discussions from the chapter level up to national leadership.
I would also like to congratulate the following AI Members and Executive Director for receiving Appraisal Institute Awards, last week in Las Vegas, NV, during the Awards Ceremony of the AI Annual Conference.
· Brad Carter, MAI & Tyler Leard - George L. Schmutz Award
· Hank Wise, MAI – James H. Pritchett Award
· Suzanne Brockway – President’s Award
If you have any ideas on how to attract residential appraisers to the Appraisal Institute, please email me at [email protected]. I would love to hear any and all ideas.
In uncertain times, our clients value the opinions of qualified appraisers more than ever; so, I think everyone will have a fantastic second half of 2022.
