“I declare after all there is no enjoyment like reading! How much sooner one tires of any thing than of a book! When I have a house of my own, I shall be miserable if I have not an excellent library.”
-Jane Austen

“You don’t have to burn books to destroy a culture. Just get people to stop reading them.”
-Ray Bradbury

“When I look back, I am so impressed again with the life-giving power of literature. If I were a young person today, trying to gain a sense of myself in the world, I would do that again by reading, just as I did when I was young.”
-Maya Angelou

Books are the perfect entertainment: no commercials, no batteries, hours of enjoyment for each dollar spent.
-Stephen King

Tales from AVB
POWER UP-date
Have you ever noticed the colorful POWER UP posters on display in our front room?
These rare serigraphs, hand-printed in 1965 by Corita Kent, are some of our most prized pieces of history. Corita Kent, also known as Sister Mary Corita, was an artist with an innovative approach to design and education. Her work reflects her concerns about poverty, racism, and war, and her messages of peace and social justice continue to resonate with audiences today.
We are working with our good friend, High Museum framer Larry Miller, to preserve and frame this important work. We are currently planning special events to celebrate the unveiling of the final product.
AVB Community News
Emory College senior Alexa Mohsenzadeh is charting our store to study how a single location can have multiple meanings for different people. The plan for the yearlong fellowship calls for giving customers a blank sheet of paper on which to draw their personal map. Stay tuned for more details!
HORROR COLLECTION
