POWER UP-DATE

POWER UP with us on January 14!

We are excited to share the news that our POWER UP prints

are now preserved and beautifully framed.

POWER UP is comprised of four rare serigraphs hand-printed in 1965 by Corita Kent. Also known as Sister Mary Corita, she was an American artist, designer and educator.

Her work juxtaposed spiritual, pop cultural, literary, and political writings alongside symbols of consumer culture and modern life.

In keeping with the social justice themes in Sister Corita's work,

we will celebrate her life on Martin Luther King Jr. weekend.

Join us for

POWER UP SATURDAY

on Saturday, January 14th, for a food drive, hands-on screenprinting projects and an art talk about Sister Corita's life.

Collectible Books: Gift Ideas & Buying Tips

A vintage book is a one-of-a-kind gift.

It is a timeless piece of history, an individual work of art, a beautifully bound object that is far more than mere ink upon a page.

Shopping ‘used’ is also environmentally friendly and sustainable,

recycling previously loved classics and preserving hard-to-find books for future generations.

Vintage Children's Books make great nostalgic gifts, especially rare or out-of-print books, which link someone with a long-lost literary treasure.

Collectible special interest books are a wonderful and unique gift.

From SportsPhotographyGardening, and Art

to History, Golf, Law, and Music

there is sure to be a genre to fit everyone.

The gift of a cookbook can be a welcome reminder of your gift recipient’s heritage and family. Moments in the kitchen create our family stories and sharing meals is how many of us remember home.

When choosing a vintage, rare or collectible book, there are many details to consider. We are always happy to help you find a book that fits your needs and budget and also explain the value of a rare book.

What is the difference between an

Inscribed Book and a Signed Book?

An Inscribed Book is signed to a specific person, while a Signed Book is simply signed by the author.

What makes a First Edition valuable?

A First Edition is the first printing of a book. It is true that a First Edition may have one or more printings and that a Second Edition will normally be noted only if there are actual changes, usually major, in the text. But for a collector, a First Printing is the only true First Edition.

How to Identify a First Edition

EASTON PRESS AND FRANKLIN LIBRARY

Easton Press and Franklin Library books generally have distinctive features such as a genuine, premium leather binding, 22kt gold cover and spine lettering and decoration, specially milled acid-neutral paper, Smyth-sewn pages with gilded edges, and endsheets of moiré silk with a permanent satin ribbon page-marker.

We have recently acquired a large collection of

Easton Press and Franklin Library books,

including classic literature, sci-fi, poetry, and history.

Many of these are available in-store only,

so please call us if you are looking for a specific author or book.

Community News

We had a wonderful time during the first annual

Atlanta Indie Bookshop Crawl

last week, seeing old friends and meeting so many new ones!

Twenty four Atlanta-area bookstores joined forces for a week-long event, culminating in Small Business Saturday.

Stay tuned as we make plans for more events to share!

QUOTABLES

I wonder if the snow loves the trees and fields, that it kisses them so gently? And then it covers them up snug, you know, with a white quilt; and perhaps it says, "Go to sleep, darlings, till the summer comes again."

-Lewis Carroll, Alice's Adventures in Wonderland

My old grandmother always used to say, Summer friends will melt away like summer snows, but winter friends are friends forever.

-George R.R. Martin, A Feast for Crows

Snow was falling, so much like stars

filling the dark trees that one could easily imagine

its reason for being was nothing more

than prettiness.

-Mary Oliver

A lot of people like snow.

I find it to be an unnecessary freezing of water.

-Carl Reiner
