AVB In The News

The irony of books like Fahrenheit 451 being banned in parts of the U.S. is not lost on the owners of Atlanta Vintage Books. Ray Bradbury's dystopian novel tells the story of a future where books have been outlawed in society.

We were featured last week in a national NPR story about Banned Books Week. NPR visited our store and spoke with us at length:

"There should not be censorship," she said. "... Booksellers are lucky, because we get to sell whatever we want to sell. So we can sell the banned books, but what they're doing to schools and libraries, for that generation coming up, not being able to experience diversity as much and seeing it as a bad thing, we feel very strongly that it is not the right way to go."

-Jan Bolgla

Tales from AVB

This beautiful book, circa 1780, was brought to us by one of our favorite customers, a 14-year old collector. He was fortunate to find it on a recent family trip to Columbia. It is bound in sheepskin and features an inlaid map of the solar system.

ENTRETIENS SUR LA PLURALITÉ DES MONDES

QUOTABLES

I am the literary equivalent of a Big Mac and fries.

-Stephen King

The oldest and strongest emotion of mankind is fear, and the oldest and strongest kind of fear is fear of the unknown.

-H. P. Lovecraft

“I am apt to find, in the laundry list, a scribble reading, ‘Shirley, don’t forget—no murder before chapter five.'”

-Shirley Jackson

You don’t start out writing good stuff. You start out writing crap and thinking it’s good stuff, and then gradually you get better at it. That’s why I say one of the most valuable traits is persistence.

-Octavia Butler

Upcoming Events

Join us October 25 at 6PM

to meet

MARGARET KILLJOY

"For this impressive collection, Killjoy brings together 21 speculative shorts tinged with just the right amount of horror to keep readers gloriously uncomfortable... Throughout, Killjoy showcases her gift for blending cerebral speculation with visceral thrills. There's plenty to chew on here."
