ACA SUMMER ART CAMP
INSPIRES YOUNG ARTISTS!
Atlantic Center for the Arts SUMMER ART CAMP 2023 "Masterpieces of Art:
Past, Present, and Future" offered a fun and inspiring six weeks of children's art workshops.
ACA's Summer Art Camp, the longest-running children's art camp in Volusia County, was held at ACA's Harris House and Yurick Studios in downtown New Smyrna Beach. Each weekly session gave kids an opportunity to explore ideas of art and culture through hands-on experience with a variety of art forms. Scholarships were offered for each session. There was downtime for snacks, stretching, games, and lunch. Participants met new friends and took home artwork every week. Camp administrator Ms. Peggy said everyone had a great summer. Thank you to all of our teachers, volunteers, and scholarship supporters!

ACA's Young Sound Seekers Launches 4th Year!
In 2020, ACA launched its Young Sound Seekers program, a five-year initiative made possible by the National Park Service (NPS) Natural Sounds and Night Skies Division. The program encourages the appreciation of natural sounds and helps overcome barriers to access by creating a safe, undistracted outdoor space for blind and partially sighted students ages 13-22.
The goals of this program are to develop a curriculum that helps youth learn environmental conservation, share the natural wonders of national parks by helping to overcome barriers to access, and provide a creative platform for blind and partially sighted youth to contribute to the community in new ways. In its first year, the group produced a series of Audio Postcards that highlighted the natural sounds and cultural history of Canaveral National Seashore. The Audio Postcards can be heard via the NPS mobile app.
This August, the group will begin its fourth year with plans to create an audio description of the Canaveral National Seashore's visitor brochure. This project is part of a nationwide effort by NPS to provide accessible information to park visitors. Audio description allows individuals who are blind to access content that is not otherwise accessible simply by listening to narration or using text-to-voice technology. ACA is grateful for its partnership with the Conklin Davis Center for Visually Impaired and Stetson University who co-facilitate this program.

Put A Bird On It:
A Community Art Project
| |
This community art project will be on display
through August 2023 at
ACA Downtown: Harris House
214 S. Riverside Drive, New Smyrna Beach
In the spring of 2023, Atlantic Center for the Arts invited the public to a series of free talks designed to create an awareness and appreciation of the environment through the study of birds and the Florida Wildlife Corridor. Southeast Volusia Audubon Society, Stetson University Water and Environmental Resilience Institute, Florida Native Plant Society, and Canaveral National Seashore speakers informed audiences on these important topics. Community members from Beachside Nursing Home, NSB High School, the ACA Volunteer League, ACA’s homeschool art program, and NSB residents were invited to use colored pens to create a bird for inclusion in this kinetic art mobile.
We thank Latitude Margaritaville Daytona Beach Foundation for supporting this project with a community grant to ACA to fund the Put a Bird on It program.
