On October 29, 2022, the Inter-American Division marked its 100th anniversary with a grand celebration filled with praise and thanksgiving in the Dominican Republic. During the afternoon program, IAD leadership acknowledged individuals and ministries instrumental in moving the mission forward in their territory. They presented a commemorative medal and award to the Atlantic Union Conference in appreciation of the union's monetary support and mission efforts in the IAD. Over the years, Elias F. Zabala, Sr., Atlantic Union treasurer, has orchestrated bringing dozens of pastors from the United States to conduct evangelistic meetings in the Dominican Republic, resulting in hundreds of baptisms. In addition, the Atlantic Union Conference administration has donated thousands of dollars to assist with building churches and schools. Zabala was joined by Dionisio Olivo, retired Atlantic Union Conference vice president of Hispanic and Portuguese Ministries, and Claudio Gomez, New York Conference executive secretary, to receive the gifts during the awards ceremony at the East Central University's sports arena in San Pedro de Macoris. On November 17, Olivo presented the award and medal to Pierre E. Omeler, Atlantic Union Conference president, at the Atlantic Union office headquarters in Lancaster, Massachusetts, during a staff luncheon.

When "Being Helpful" Becomes Spiritually Abusive
|
"The Bible encourages us in multiple places to help each other, to be nurturing, to say or do positive and uplifting things. For many, doing this comes easily, and we can actually help and encourage someone who is struggling. Unfortunately, sometimes in our efforts to help, we do or say something hurtful. Our behavior tears that person down, creating a situation that can be quickly unhealthy or even, at times, abusive. How can we recognize when something we say or do shifts from being "merely 'unhelpful' or 'unhealthy' to being spiritually abusive?"
