Seven Corners Psychotherapy and Crossroads Family Counseling Center is
offering a unique 6-week experience to understand how Symbols are used in
Play Therapy and how to understand them in the context of play, our clients, and
ourselves.
This workshop will help participants to explore the use of symbols and metaphor
by children in play therapy, both in the context of child centered play therapy and
sand play therapy. Participants will examine examples of symbols and the way
they are used in symbolic play and metaphor through case examples. Participants
will explore the various meanings of different symbols, especially in the context of
personal and cultural history in sand play therapy.
The combination of workshop and group format will allow participants to take
their learning to new and deeper levels.
The first session of the group will be a training on the use of Symbols in the
context of Sand Play and Jungian theory to give the group a shared language
and a way to understand how we will approach symbols on our journey.
The next 4 sessions will each focus on two symbols, each participant will have
the opportunity to choose one symbol during the workshop. The group will do a
deep dive in the personal and collective meanings around each symbol to
understand the ways it can be used in play and sand, the importance of
understanding a symbol's power, and the role of transference and
countertransference in the use of symbols.
The final group will allow space to process the work we have done together.

1. Describe the use of symbols, symbolic play, and metaphor in sand play
therapy.
2. Discuss how to understand the meaning of symbols used in sand play
therapy.
3. Identify one's own projections onto symbols used in sand play therapy.

This will be a virtual meeting. Participants must be present (visible) for the entire training and will be awarded contact CE upon successful completion of a post test. Due to COVID-19 health concerns, this one-time online event has been approved by APT for 12.00 CONTACT CE Hours. CFCC is approved by the Association for Play Therapy to offer continuing education specific to play therapy. CFCC maintains responsibility for the program. APT Approved Provider 13-360. Attendance Monitoring and Post Test Requirement: In order to monitor attendance, ensure participation, and receive CE credit, attendees are required to attend the full training, maintain their video camera "ON" throughout the duration of the workshop and complete a post-test within 2 weeks of the training. All workshops will be recorded for attendance record keeping purposes.
