Teaching Customer Service Excellence and Etiquette Savvy

Greetings!

As we wrap up summer and head into Labor Day weekend, it's the perfect time to reflect on how good manners make every interaction—whether at a backyard barbecue or the office—more pleasant for everyone. Fall is also an ideal season for companies to invest in business etiquette and customer service training, helping employees present their best selves to clients and colleagues as we head into the busy final quarter.

On a personal note; I will be spending time in the lovely Washington coast town of Anacortes over the next several months and will be offering etiquette classes for children and teens there as well as in the Greater Seattle area. Adults, I've got you covered too with a virtual etiquette class on October 26.

Read etiquette quick tips below, including what to bring to the potluck BBQ, to make your waning summer events mannerly and manageable.

Etiquette Quick Tips

Labor Day-specific tips:

  • When attending potlucks, bring serving utensils for your dish so the host doesn't scramble to find extras.
  • At Labor Day gatherings, offer to help the host with setup or cleanup without being asked—it's a meaningful way to honor the spirit of the holiday.
  • Make mingling conversations more engaging by asking questions that invite stories: "What's something you're looking forward to this fall?" or "What's the most interesting thing you've learned recently?" Open-ended questions give people a chance to share what genuinely excites them.

Quick etiquette reminders:

  • Thank people specifically: "Thanks for thinking of me" is more meaningful than just "Thanks."
  • Wave when a driver let’s you merge or pass on a crowded street. Read more driving etiquette tips in this recent post.
  • In group texts, use names when responding to someone specific to avoid confusion.
  • If a call drops, the person who initiated the call is the person who should call back.

Recent Praise

Sophia truly enjoyed her lessons with you and was always excited to share what she learned afterward. I’ve already seen her practicing her etiquette with her grandfather, who is visiting now. At dinner last night, she politely shared what she’d learned about table manners and kept the conversation engaging. It’s clear your classes made a lasting impression, and I know she won’t forget them. Thank you again.
