Meet the Training, Reporting & Analytics Team: Lori Koepsel
By Hannah Tarver
The Cogito Analytics team is comprised of analysts, developers, database admins, and trainers to meet the analytics and reporting needs of UTHealth. This month we are highlighting Lori Koepsel, a bright and experienced leader who has served UTHealth for almost six years.
Can you share a brief background on your education and when you started here at UTHealth?
I have a Master’s degree in Health Informatics from the University of Missouri – Columbia, a Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration with an emphasis in MIS from Montclair State University (NJ), and an Applied Associate’s Degree in Medical Laboratory Technology from Del Mar College in Corpus Christi, TX. I started working at UT Health as a Senior Project Manager in March of 2017.
What is your favorite part of your role as EPIC Business Intelligence Technical Support Manager?
My favorite part of my role is actually two-fold. I enjoy being able to share my knowledge and experience with others so that they can broaden their skill sets, setting them up for advancement and personal growth. The other favorite part is that I have the opportunity to learn something new every day.
What work-related accomplishment are you really proud of?
A big work accomplishment that I am really proud of is the recent deployment of the automated reporting to the Prescription Drug Monitoring Program for the HCPC Pharmacy Department. This accomplishment allows Pharmacists to focus on patient care, created a solution using Epic data where the functionality isn’t natively available in Epic, and broadened my skill set.
Are you currently bingeing any shows on Netflix?
I’m actually bingeing on Hulu right now. I didn’t start off watching the Good Doctor and after several mentions by my Mom I decided to give it a try. I was bingeing on The Crown on Netflix, but the change in actors/actresses in Season 3 really turned me off of it. The sad thing is that my primary binge-watching occurs on the weekend. Too much to do on a weeknight to be able to sit down and enjoy tv.
What is one of your biggest pet peeves?
One of my biggest pet peeves is when people adopt a pet, but later abandon that pet because it becomes too much work. This pet peeve is probably tied with people who don’t spay or neuter their pets.
If you could snap your fingers and become an expert in anything, what would it be?
I don’t think I would like to be an expert at anything. That would leave one less learning pathway available.
